Reviewed January 17, 2018 (edited December 31, 2019)this non chill filtered scotch was aged for 5 years in ex bourbon barrel casks, and then 7 most in 1/4 sized casks. this Islay distillery was founded in 1815 nose: brine, seaweed, wood, fenugreek, campfire peat, BBQ ham, cocoa butter palate: oily, med bodied, pear, tussin, smoked fish, sugar, vanilla finish: long, peat, brine, oak, intense tannin a fantastic whisky for it's age, a like it with a drop or two of water, to lighten up it's harshness -
this rye forward bourbon uses 68% corn, 28% rye and 4% malted barley (Augustus bulleit's original recipe was 2/3 rye, 1/3 corn) nose: oak, warm spices, rye, palate: sharp, tangy, burnt sugar, rye, Woody finish: med long, soft, spicy, sweet I good all around bourbon, this works well neat, and it's flavor and price fit into a cocktail well, though a higher proof would make me like it a little more
