Nose: Caramel, orange, berries, green herbs Palate: Caramel, apple & pear, orchard fruit, bready. Young and hot tasting Finish: Barley & light smoke

Nose: Tropical fruit, honey, barley Palate: Oak, sweet, barley. Rough / hot on the palate Finish: Dry, oaky, sweet vanilla, cocoa This is a fairly pungent and rough whisky. Dry and earthy on the finish.

Nose: Grape, fruity, green herbs, green pepper Palate: Sugar, sweet summer berries, white pepper Finish: Jam, prunes, cognac. A warming finish

Nose: Turmeric, butter, acetone, light fruit (berries) Palate: Raisins, sugar, wax, ginger. Fresh and light Finish: Slightly bitter (citrus). Very short finish with hints of demerara sugar and butter

Nose: Sweet, honeycomb, caramel, ginger, beeswax Palate: Butterscotch, vanilla, sweet. Baked fruit. A little harsh on the palate Finish: Very short, watery finish. Slightly toasted aftertaste. This is a fairly forgettable, nothingy whiskey.

Nose: Sweet. Boiled sweets, spice. A little acetone Palate: Sweet, vanilla, honey, cherries, marzipan Finish: Orange, dried cranberries, citrus, cocoa. Tobacco at the very end.

Matured in wine, Madeira, Sherry, Marsala, Kentucky bourbon and Port casks Nose: Orange, chocolate, vanilla, fruit Palate: Chocolate cherries, red fruit Finish: Oak, salted caramel, red wine. Pepper and oak on the long aftertaste The long aftertaste has loads of PX notes, with cocoa and cherries staying on the finish. Absolutely delicious!

2020 Release European sherry seasoned oak butts Nose: Sweet, earthy, vanilla, raisin Palate: Vanilla, chocolate, raisins, cocoa powder Finish: Warm and mouthcoating with a medium long finish. Notes of chocolate and citrus. This is a lovely, luxurious tasting whisky. Beautifully balanced.

(Once Upon a Whisky – Glasgow Distillery Virtual Tasting, 25 January 2021). Nose: Vanilla, floral, banana, tropical fruit Palate: First sip is fiery and peppery. Floral, soapy, fruit (pears & lemons). Hints of nuts and marzipan Finish: Slightly bitter and numbing. Medium long finish. Notes of marmalade, spices and oak/wood This dram is a little harsh, but rather refreshing. Came joint third of the five whiskies, with 5% of the final vote for favourite of the night

Malt Riot Vat No. 6 Nose: Bready, vanilla, freshly sawed wood, caramel, coconut Palate: Sweet, tropical fruit, malted biscuit, salt & pepper, toffee Finish: Short, milky coffee, cream, chocolate, nutty/marzipan at the finish Very easy to drink. This is blended as a mixer dram, but it works pretty well as a light easy-going whisky in it's own right. I rather liked this as a standard blended whisky, it's a lot more complex and interesting than many standard blends. Came last of the five whiskies, with 0% of the final vote for favourite of the night.
