Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 6
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 27, 2020 (edited July 10, 2021)(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Premium Whisky Tasting, 27 November 2020). Nose: Honey, golden syrup, floral Palate: Full and with a beautifully rich mouthfeel. Dark caramelised oranges, sweet and spicy. Finish: Sweet & Spicy, barley sugar sweets, oak, pepper and ginger. There is more of a feeling than a taste - it has a well crafted feel to it. This is an excellent whisky, but I don't think the price point is really justified. My score does not include any price reference, but I personally couldn't justify the price against other 'premium' whiskies. Came last of the six whiskies, with 0% (0) of the final vote for favourite of the night. (61% of those present said they enjoyed the whisky). This was a very close second for me. Unfortunately, someone in the tasting told everyone the price before the end - the idea being you vote before knowing the price so that it doesn't affect your vote. I suspect the price put a lot of people off from voting based on the discussion and the chat.275.0 GBP per BottleThe Good Spirits Co. -
Dram Mor Tomintoul 2005 15 Year Old
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 27, 2020 (edited November 28, 2020)(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Premium Whisky Tasting, 27 November 2020). Nose: Toasted barley, sweet (sugar syrup), ginger Palate: Nutty, oak, bread/crackers, lemon, cinnamon, clove, very herbal. A little 'hot' from the obvious alcohol note. Finish: Citrus, golden syrup, dark chocolate. Crisp and 'zingy' with a grapefruit kick at the end. This is a spirit forward dram. It has a really lovely old fashioned feel due to it's spirit forward nature. It's equally spicy, warming and honeyed - with a citrus kick. Came joint second of the six whiskies, with 17% (4) of the final vote for favourite of the night. (74% of those present said they enjoyed the whisky).90.5 GBP per BottleThe Good Spirits Co. -
Benromach 21 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 27, 2020 (edited September 24, 2022)(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Premium Whisky Tasting, 27 November 2020). Nose: Sherry, dark fruit, sultanas, orange, brown sugar, aromatic spices Palate: Stewed fruit, orange, ginger, chocolate, black pepper, light wisps of smoke Finish: Sherry, light oak, red chilies, Christmas cake. Nicely sours at the very end. Medium long finish. This is a lovely dram. It suffers from a slightly thin mouthfeel, but it's a minor niggle. Came joint second of the six whiskies, with 17% of the final vote for favourite of the night. (65% of those present said they enjoyed the whisky). This was my vote for favourite, but it was a really close call between most of them.129.5 GBP per BottleThe Good Spirits Co. -
Glenmorangie Signet
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 21, 2020 (edited November 17, 2021)Nose: Aromatic, herbal, castor sugar. Fruity and sweet. There’s a definite candied fruit note on the nose. Palate: Chocolate raisin, orange peel, espresso, roasted coffee bean, spices, wood. Finish: More coffee, citrus/ orange, spice. Sweetens in the aftertaste. This is a beautifully layered dram. There is a wonderful complexity with glimpses of tropical, honeyed fruit and spices. There is a definite elegance to this whisky. It tastes like an occasion dram for some reason that’s hard to put your finger on. Delicious!126.95 GBP per Bottle -
Glenallachie 2008 Single Cask 11 Year Old
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 19, 2020 (edited December 17, 2020)Nose: Sweet sherry, wine, dark fruit Palate: Chocolate cherries, figs, apricots Finish: Cocoa, coffee, fruit cake. Distilled: July 2008 Bottled: February 2020 1 of 773 bottles Matured in a single Pedro Ximenez puncheon over the entire maturation period. This is a serious sherry bomb! I am a big fan of Glenallachie. I especially like some of their single casks and indie bottlings, the spirit stands up well to experimentation and seems to thrive in the hands of enthusiasts. This expression is a real stand out. There is a tangible unicorn feel to this dram. It’s an absolute cracker!89.95 GBP per Bottle -
Woodford Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 19, 2020 (edited December 15, 2020)Nose: Acetone, sweet, honey Palate: Coffee, dark chocolate, burned oak. Full bodied. Finish: Medium/short finish. Toast, chocolate covered coffee beans. Quickly dissipates in the finish. There’s a somewhat watered down feel to this whisky. It’s not as sweet as many standard bourbons, but to my palate it lacks a little depth.30.75 GBP per Bottle -
Nose: Sweet, warm, buttery, caramel Palate: Waxy mouthfeel, buttery, spices (peppercorn and chilli), chocolate, oil, oak/nutty, salt Finish: Chocolate, bitter, vanilla. Long finish. Interesting dram. I’ve had this dozens of times in cocktails and with a mixer, but I’ve never had it as a dram in it’s own right. It is a little ‘hot’, it is unrefined and inelegant, but it’s perfectly drinkable. It suffers by comparison to other whiskies, but I’d happily have a few (although the initial raw alcohol hit may dampen my enthusiasm for one more...!)29.9 GBP per Bottle

Nose: Honey, orange, oak Palate: Rich, orange zest, butterscotch, sweet/spicy Finish: Oak, spicy, sweet, nutty This was an interesting dram. I’ve had this dozens of times before with a mixer or as a cocktail, but on its own it actually stands up reasonably well. It’s not refined, don’t expect waves and layers of flavours, but it’s pretty decent. For my preference, I’d still chose to use this in an old fashioned. It’s not a neat dram I’ll go back to, but, for what it is, it’s OK.23.95 GBP per Bottle

GlenAllachie 10 Year Cask Strength Batch 4
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 12, 2020 (edited August 13, 2021)(The GlenAllachie Virgin Oak Series Virtual Tasting with Billy Walker, 12th November 2020). 50% Oloroso sherry cask, mainly virgin oak for the balance Nose: Dark chocolate, cinnamon & ginger, dried dark fruit (raisin/prune) Palate: Honey, raisin & cranberries, chocolate. Loads of juicy dark/dried fruit. Lovely mouthfeel. Finish: Orange, chocolate, toast (?), slightly drying. A warming, almost Chritmassy dram. There's less of the honey/orange that I always think of from GlenAllachie, but this is a delicious, easy drinking dram. Lovely!55.95 GBP per Bottle -
GlenAllachie 12 Year Old Chinquapin (US) Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 12, 2020 (edited March 5, 2021)(The GlenAllachie Virgin Oak Series Virtual Tasting with Billy Walker, 12th November 2020). Chinquapin oak from Missouri. Most of its life the spirit was in American bourbon barrels, with an 18month finishing period in the virgin American Chinquapin oak cask. Casks were air dried for 48 months before use. Nose: Honey, orange, herbal Palate: Heather honey, buttery mouthfeel, barley sugar, spices (cumin, green spices), black pepper Finish: Floral, black pepper, baked biscuits As with the rest of the virgin oak range, you can pick out the distillery signature note of honey and a little spice. A good, well made dram with some real depth and layers of flavour.62.46 GBP per Bottle
