Tastes

Nose is very peanut-y, with some lemongrass notes backing it up. This thing is THICK when you take a sip, with strong woody notes that evolve into a dark chocolate bittersweetness. Me oh my, does this finish stick with you. It is bold and persistent but not overwhelmingly boozy. A fantastic pour.

(Tasting a Total Wine barrel pick.) Nose is wild. Like those butterscotch candies old ladies carry, with some subtler grassy notes hiding in there too. Palate is similar, but it takes a hard turn to the vegetal on the finish, which reminds me of Old Pepper rye. I’m not sure if they all taste like this or if it’s just this pick, but it’s a crazy unique, solid pour.

Love the nose on this. Cinnamon, pecans, and cranberry. Smells like Christmas. Berry notes linger into the palate before bolder, woodier notes come to play. Finish is pretty pine-y and nice and long.

The nose here is hard to pin down, but it’s bright and sweet. Palate is equally bright, with some floral notes and brown sugar. Finish is noticeably darker, with some oak tannins coming in to play. It’s almost like a scotch. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s a solid pour for sure if you’re into more unique whiskeys.

Very balanced nose, not too sweet, but not overwhelmingly spicy. Turns pretty vegetal and earthy as it opens up. The palate’s got a thick mouthfeel and a deep, full-bodied spice that hugs you tight. Medium-short finish that’s surprisingly sweet, with a faint banana note.

Nose is pretty boozy, but if you push through it, you get some vanilla bean and sourdough bread notes. Palate is sweet and light, kinda reminds angel food cake. It turns spicier on the finish, which comes with a nice, long hug.

Notes of lemongrass and flowers on the nose. Leather and a hint of vinegar on the palate, which lingers into the finish. This is a weird one, and probably isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but for the $5 I paid for a glass, it’s a cool, unique taste.

Nose is bold and dark caramel-y. Not what you’d maybe expect from a wheater. Baking spice and cinnamon on the palate. Lots of spice, like black pepper, on the finish, which hits you in the back of your throat and lingers but not for too long.

Nose is pretty sweet like most in the Weller line, with notes of brown sugar and strawberries. Palate and finish have a little more spice to it than other Weller, which I like. Honestly, it tastes older than a 12 year. There’s a good bit of oak here.

(Trying the 2020 release) Smells kinda like a whiskey sour. Sweet, bright, and lemony. Palate turns it down a notch with some charcoal and a hint of smoke. Finish is almost non-existent, which is the only disappointment here for me.
