Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 11, 2021 (edited January 5, 2022)Classic Buffalo Trace notes of cherry, grape, and brown sugar on the nose. Palate is similar, but spicier. Baking spice finish, with some subtle mint coming to play towards the end. An excellent pour. -
Kentucky Owl 10 Year The Last Rye (Batch #4)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 30, 2021 (edited September 3, 2022)Nose is surprisingly sweet for a rye, with honey leading before turning more leathery. Palate brings in notes of mint and lemongrass, then a bomb of spice and wood hits you on the finish, which is nice and long. -
Blue Run Kentucky Straight Golden Rye (Batch #1)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 30, 2021 (edited January 15, 2022)Peppermint and baking spices on the nose. Palate is vegetal but subtle, then maple syrup and a hint of clove come in on the finish. Wish it lingered a little longer, but overall, this is a really nice, easygoing rye. -
Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2021 FAE-02

Reviewed October 24, 2021 (edited November 2, 2021)Smells like a glass full of Autumn. Red apples, deep, rich caramel, and dry red wine. Palate is full-bodied and fruity, with a long, spicy finish. As big a Kentucky hug as you can hope for. Makers knocked it out of the park on this one. -
Russell's Reserve 13 Year Bourbon (2021 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 6, 2021 (edited September 11, 2021)Honey, brown sugar, and cherry on the nose. Nutmeg and baking spices make for an unexpectedly spicy palate after that. Big, bold, spicy finish with a gentle but long hug. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B521
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 10, 2021 (edited October 5, 2021)Nose is very peanut-y, with some lemongrass notes backing it up. This thing is THICK when you take a sip, with strong woody notes that evolve into a dark chocolate bittersweetness. Me oh my, does this finish stick with you. It is bold and persistent but not overwhelmingly boozy. A fantastic pour. -
NULU Toasted Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — (bottled in) Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 30, 2021 (edited June 26, 2022)(Tasting a Total Wine barrel pick.) Nose is wild. Like those butterscotch candies old ladies carry, with some subtler grassy notes hiding in there too. Palate is similar, but it takes a hard turn to the vegetal on the finish, which reminds me of Old Pepper rye. I’m not sure if they all taste like this or if it’s just this pick, but it’s a crazy unique, solid pour.
