Isaac Bowman Straight Bourbon Finished in Port Barrels
Bourbon — Virginia, USA
Reviewed June 8, 2021 (edited July 16, 2021)Lots of vanilla on the nose here. Palate is sweet, with notes of strawberry and cherry. Subdued finish, with darker, woodier notes. -
Thomas S. Moore Cabernet Sauvignon Cask Finished Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 8, 2021 (edited July 25, 2021)Deep, rich nose. Like red velvet cake. Palate isn’t quite as sweet, with some oakier flavors coming to play. Finish is disappointingly short, but bright and sweet. -
Woodford Reserve Distillery Series Double Double Oaked 2019
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 11, 2021Very rich nose, full of butterscotch and honey. I could just smell this thing all day. Palate is similar, with a thick, syrupy mouthfeel. Finish brings some more savory, spicy notes and hugs you just right. After having two different versions, I feel comfortable saying Double Double is my favorite Woodford expression. -
Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Batch Proof 123.6
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 11, 2021 (edited June 4, 2022)Strong cherry and chocolate presence on the nose. The palate is rich and creamy, but more like dark chocolate than something too sweet. A longer, far more complex finish than you’ll find on most Woodford offerings. Miles above the standard Woodford Reserve. -
Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Chocolate Malted Rye Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 11, 2021 (edited September 27, 2022)Light, surprisingly floral nose. Almost more akin to a scotch than a bourbon. That doesn’t prepare you at all for the palate, which is far darker and kind of reminds me of a campfire. The finish might be the smokiest I’ve experienced in a bourbon. This thing is a wild ride. -
Woodford Reserve Master's Collection 1838 Style White Corn Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 11, 2021Bright nose with some honey, lemon, and white pepper notes. Palate is similarly sweet, with corn being the predominant flavor (big surprise, I know). The finish kicks the spice up a notch and also brings some more familiar Woodford notes of caramel and oak. Overall, a unique whiskey, but nothing that screams top shelf to me.
