The nose is not at all what I expected, and I mean that in the best way. No ethanol, but rich and creamy, like strawberry shortcake. The palate is delightful. Vanilla and berries abound. The long, warm finish you’d expect with a barrel proof comes in just in time. Good lord, this is good.

The nose on this one is a TREAT. Plenty of oak, but lots of sweet, cakey notes of vanilla and fudge too. The palate isn’t quite as rich, but it is still sweet. Finish turns a little darker, starting off with some dried fruit flavors coming to play before turning oaky.

You can smell the age on this one. Like taking a deep breath in carpenter’s shop. The palate keeps up with that. It’s very dark with lots of char and black pepper. Finish is a little lighter, with some brown sugar and baking spice notes that linger without turning bitter.

Lots of vanilla on the nose here. Palate is sweet, with notes of strawberry and cherry. Subdued finish, with darker, woodier notes.

Deep, rich nose. Like red velvet cake. Palate isn’t quite as sweet, with some oakier flavors coming to play. Finish is disappointingly short, but bright and sweet.

Nose is bright, with notes of white grape and oak. Takes a turn on the palate, which is noticeably darker, full of charcoal and black pepper. The finish is relatively mild, but with a heavy char at the start. This is weird. Not quite my thing, but it’s interesting.

Lemongrass and oats on the nose. Hint of butterscotch. Wheat bread (but not too much) and honey on the palate. Minty finish. A very pleasant rye, especially for someone just stepping into it.

Strawberry, oats, and a hint of honey on the nose. Very pleasant. The palate is a great balance of sweet and spicy, with notes of cinnamon and tart green apples. Some minty rye notes come in to play on the finish, which is warm, welcoming, and long.

Very rich nose, full of butterscotch and honey. I could just smell this thing all day. Palate is similar, with a thick, syrupy mouthfeel. Finish brings some more savory, spicy notes and hugs you just right. After having two different versions, I feel comfortable saying Double Double is my favorite Woodford expression.

Strong cherry and chocolate presence on the nose. The palate is rich and creamy, but more like dark chocolate than something too sweet. A longer, far more complex finish than you’ll find on most Woodford offerings. Miles above the standard Woodford Reserve.
