Peerless Single Barrel: Meijer sweet and Smoky goodness
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Tasted July 15, 2021Neck Pour in Glencairn. 10 minutes to open up. 1st impressions: hefty gorgeous bottle. Stopper weighs 37.8 pounds. Great classic bottle and label design. Nose: New fresh oak, vanilla, barrel char, pepper and spicy cinnamon jump out of glass, initial thought is this smells a little like wild turkey rare breed, which I love. The nose perfectly matches the nick name "sweet and Smoky goodness". There is a bit of sweetness like vanilla frosting. Pallate: mouthfeel is buttery with a slight dryness in the finish. This is very sweet up front and then peppery and spicy on the finish. This is incredibly mouth coating and covers the entire pallate with a warm tingling sensation and an explosion of flavor. Finish: medium long with cinnamon red hots, vanilla, pepper, and a cooling mint. Nose: After the first sip, the nose starts to give off a very slight herbal and floral quality, maybe rosemary and dill. I get the gardettos rye chip note on the back end that plays well with these herbal notes. Very nice. For about 4.5 years this is phenomenal! A little pricey? Yes, but totally worth it in my opinion. I really took my time trying to research this before buying it. I tried the small batch bourbon and wasn't really impressed. But this single barrel pick by Meijer in Indianapolis is so stinking good! Excellent job with this one! My only regret is not jumping on it sooner.69.99 USD per BottleMeijer -
George Dickel Bottled in Bond Tennessee Whisky 13 Year (Spring 2007)
Tennessee — Tennessee, USA
Tasted June 7, 2021I'm really surprised that people aren't flocking to the stores to get this bottle. With this being a 13-year-old bottled and bond whiskey for under $50 this is something that you do not come across very often. And I must say after my first drink and after comparing it to the 2008 11 year bottled in bond I would say that this has quite a bit more flavor, depth, character and overall is a much more refined whiskey. I feel like this is an absolute steal! For the price, why would you not be looking to pick this up? This is delicious! One of the best bib whiskies out there. Stop hating on Dickel!45.99 USD per BottleCrown Liquors -

So let's think about this, we have a bottle that is $43 store pick at 110 proof that is also craft whiskey and is one of the most unique bottles of whiskey that I've ever tried flavor wise. This is a no brained for me. I've had their stand small. Batch non store pick and at first the barley content was weird. But after a while I started to uncover sommany unique flavors and tasting notes that I knew I needed another bottle. This time I located a barrell selection from my local total wine and it is phenomenal! It is not your typical bourbon profile which I love, it has this malty brb yard funk and beautiful grain characteristic that grows and grows on my pallate into some amazing flavors. On the nose: Floral elderflower and eucalyptus Honey Orange peel Fresh Apricot Pear Fresh sugar cane Light brown sugar and maraschino cherries Very light banana and coconut Vanilla Hot chocolate packet with the marshmallows Amaretto This stuff is one of my favorites when I want something unique. This is not my everyday pour and it takes some time to get used to the flavors but holy cow is it good. I also bought the mattie gladden and it's good but the flavors hide a little more behind the rye where as in this one they are bright and in your face and willing to accept that they're different! Good pick!43.0 USD per Bottle

Great all around balanced bourbon. Beautiful nose of baking spices like cinnamon and clove, fruits like fresh nectarines and apple, vanilla, banana, pear. Taste of oak, vanilla, brown sugar, little spice on the finish. I just love the balance of this whiskey and is always my go to for an old fashioned.

Nose 1: typical caramel vanilla and fruit on the nose. Smells very sweet. Slight musty smell or some type of earthy funk that was there right as I smelled it first and then went away. Taste 1: getting a little ethanol taste on the first sip. Followed by some caramel and vanilla. Very basic. Nose 2: getting more of the corn and grain on the nose this time. That funk I think is coming from the grains, wheat is likely. Taste 2: getting orange peel and spices of cinnamon and clove. Some brown sugar and maple syrup. Finish: medium-long, flavor sticks around on the tongue for about 25 seconds. Overall: for having been a cheap bottom of the shelf bottle I'd say it's pretty good. Same price as buffalo trace and I think I like this just slightly more. I remember a floral note in the buffalo trace and more of an alcohol taste. Would like to do a blind taste test between these two. Cheers25.0 USD per Bottle
