Tasted at a bar with 3 other whiskies side by side. Very easy going, easy to drink, light on the nose, pleasant. This has a young rye-like taste but is still complex. The nose is light and doesn't throw scents out of the glass like some other whiskeys... Nose develops as it sits into a caramel apple and maple syrup, some dark fruit of plum and raisin. Finish is peppery and rye spice comes through beautifully. Not too bad but not my favorite. Wow, finish really keeps on going.

Early Times Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 7, 2020 (edited November 24, 2020)Nose 1: getting some heat on the nose early, spice and charred oak, oregano maybe, something herbal. Smells decently complex for its cost. Taste 1: oak and barrel char is present and fills the sides of the tongue with the good kind of bitterness. Not too spicy but it's noticable, a little pepper and cinnamon. Mouth feel is a little thin but it really coats the pallet and tastes delicious. I think wild turkey fans would really like this bottle. Nose 2: a lot more sweetness on the second nosing. That charred oak makes me salivate, it smells delicious! Creamy, oaky char, with dark sweet cherries. Taste 2: for nearly the same price as buffalo trace, this has a lot more character to it. I like the spice and barrell char notes, and it's nice and dark and rich. Lots of vanilla and cherry and oak. I paid 27 bucks for this bottle and I have to say it's definitely worth it! If you see this, pick it up! It's a winner!27.0 USD per BottleKing Liquors -
Maker's Mark 46 French Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 7, 2020 (edited November 3, 2020)Nose 1: butterscotch and brandied cherries, very sweet. Smells like a dessert, like cherry pie with butter pecan ice cream! Taste 1: mouth feel is good, little heat in the back of throat but mild and fades after a few seconds, I'm getting milk chocolate and dark fruit. Vanilla and cherry come through as well. Medium finish. Nose 2: much more of the butterscotch note. Reminds me of the riegers KC Whiskey. Smells so good! Taste 2: definitely chocolate and cherries, raisins, a little floral quality that is light, but mostly the darker richer flavors. I got a 375 ml bottle for 17.99 and I'm really enjoying it. This really surprised me with how good it was. Definitely a sipper neat, I wouldn't put this in a cocktail. Too good for that.36.0 USD per Bottle -
Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 4, 2020 (edited October 26, 2020)Nose 1: a little ethanol, corn, vanilla, and carmel, cherry, oak, Taste 1: light and fruity at first, then you get a kick in the chest of heat and buttery carmel. Nose 2: a lot of the same add orange citrus and raisins. Hint of something similar to a baked pie crust. Taste 2: now I get the rye coming through with a little mint and clove. Cinnamon adds to the range of flavors and the orange peel comes through on the finish. The lingering flavor after a while is dark chocolate, like very dark chocolate, almost bitter but in a good way. The finish itself is good, flavors linger and develop as you wait for the next sip. Warmth in the chest and belly. I got this bottle for 39.99 after having it on my radar for a while. I would say, compared to wild turkey rare breed, this might be just slightly less complex and buttery. The rare breed is very rich and the oak char comes through more. Both of these are excellent pours. I would strongly recommend this one from old forester.39.99 USD per BottleVine & Table -
Rieger's Kansas City Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Indiana (bottled in Missouri), USA
Reviewed September 23, 2020 (edited August 25, 2021)Nose: chocolatey and warm! Something on the nose that is unique to american whiskey that I'm working on trying to pick out. Just read that there is 12 Y.O. oloroso sherry in this whiskey, that's definitely what the scent is from. Vanilla extract, orange peel, and dark fruit as well. Taste 1: get a little bit of a rye spice that quickly fades and turns into a burnt sugar and caramel with orange and chocolate. Slight hint of leather. This is a straight up butterscotch bomb!! Yum! Nose 2: getting that chocolate orange candy. The one that is shaped like an orange but made out of chocolate. Not a ton of oak but it is present as the residual scent of a campfire. Taste 2: brown sugar and caramel, orange and pear. That butterscotch is quite strong. Very easy to drink. Received this as a gift from a friend and I am pleasantly surprised. This is a very unique type of whiskey, almost like a sherry cask finished bourbon but with a bigger punch and funk of the sherry. Would recommend to anyone looking for something a little different that they will enjoy. -
Peerless 3 Year Kentucky Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 23, 2020 (edited February 13, 2023)Nose 1: getting something warm scented like baked pie crust on the nose, or maybe toffee, burnt carmel. Color is dark for a 3 year. Alcohol burn is surprisingly light for 110 proof. Taste 1: wow that's a spicy rye! Not the alcohol burning as much as the spiciness if the rye grain. Super smooth and minty with hints of Carmel and vanilla, spearmint type of mint, and chocolate. Nose 2: still can't pinpoint what the layer on the nose I'm getting is. Something darker and richer than usual. Maybe a dark chocolate covered raisin. Taste 2: just as hot as the first one! Wow, for three years old this rye is killer! If you like that gut punch rye, this is it! This is a powerful and flavorful rye whiskey worth the amount I paid for it for sure. Granted I got a smokin deal on it at Payless liquors but damn this is up there with some of my favorite whiskies. Bravo to Kentucky peerless distillery on this one! I cannot wait to see what the 4,5, and 6 year ryes will taste like! -
Russell's Reserve 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 23, 2020 (edited October 25, 2020)Nose: sweet corn, dark vanilla extract, carmel, oak and fruit. Blueberry pie. Taste 1: rye spice and heat pretty quickly coats the tongue. No big alcohol burn or unpleasant flavors. The oak char is delicious. Light fruit like apple or pear. A little cinnamon and clove and nutmeg. Nose 2: still getting a Carmel and blueberry on the nose. Also a floral and herbal scent. Taste 2: Good mouth feel, little alcohol burn and taste on second taste. A slight minty feeling on the finish, cool on the tongue and warm in the chest and throat. Overall, for the 30-35 dollar price point I think this is a very solid whiskey. For about 15 dollars more I can get rare breed which I think is a little more refined with 116.8 proof and way more concentrated of flavors. This is not quite as rich as the rate breed. But they do have similar profiles especially with the barrell char notes and spice.31.0 USD per BottleMeijer -
Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 9, 2020 (edited October 26, 2020)Nose: *makes whistling sound that says damn! That's a hot nose.* With my nose at a greater distance this time, I'm finding strong vanilla and caramel, cherry, and stewed fruits like caramelized apples from a pie. Oak is present but not profound or overpowering. I also get like a creamy vanilla frosting. Sip # 1: warm rye spice and heat, definitely get some nuttiness to it, like salted peanuts, finish lingers around and keeps.that salty peanut going . Subtle warmth in chest. Nose # 2: cherry is coming through stronger now. Starting to get that salty nut in the nose as well. Sip #2: this is super tasty and complex. So many good things going on. Mouth feel is very rich and coats the palate, flavors burst from all directions, and the nose continues to develop into a wonderful bouquet of warm scents. This is phenomenal for 45 bucks.i would buy this bottle again in a heartbeat!45.0 USD per BottlePayless Liquors -
Light fruity nose. Definitely get some alcohol but it doesn't burn. Apple vanilla and cherry with a strong waft of peanuts. Maybe some caramel or butterscotch lingering there as well. Great mouth feel on first sip, with solid huh, feels good going down. Very much cinnamon, rye ****, and pepper. I even get some dark chocolate notes like baking cocoa, Nutmeg and cloves. This is very good for the 28 dollars I paid. Good high proof bourbon for the price!27.99 USD per BottlePayless Liquors
