Copper Tongue 16 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed July 17, 2021 (edited October 21, 2021)Tasted neat Nose: fruity mixed with oak with faint vanilla and caramel but orange starburst predominates with sawdust/oak behind it. I like the nose. Later I think the orange starburst took on some sherry tones. Interesting. Even later some spice emerged, cinnamon Body: light Palate: oak and stewed fruit, woody caramel. Second sip I thought this is pretty delicate not as bold flavor as the nose would suggest. More tobacco flavor with time which is nice as it blends into a finish which has more smoke and char. Over time I think this is a very sugary dram, which I like. Finish: short to medium with some barrel char which I love. Note: I am cautiously optimistic about this dram. I am curious about the 16 year old dickle as I was surprised by how much I liked the 11 & 13 year old bottled in bond. Admittedly I love sweets so any “flintstones vitamins” flavor would taste good to me. First sip was a “oooo that’s different” in a pleasant way. Overall I really like it. It’s a little off the beaten path for bourbon flavors, reminds me a little of the makers mark 2021 edition with the fruitiness. -
Knob creek single barrel select bourbon Z-04-061 (1010 Washington pick 4/2021)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 4, 2021Nose: salted caramel, vanilla, milk chocolate, much later with time a woody element appears. Over time toasted walnut but by and large this is a very sweet enjoyable nose. Way later some citrus sneaks out on the nose. Body: full body, legit Kentucky hug Palate: caramel, spicy I’m not getting much on the palate the first few sips… maybe too hot? I’m going to put in a few drops of water… with water there is more caramel and vanilla. Little chocolate and toffee. Later it’s a little more nutty. This dram needs water to let it open. Finish: first sip brought heat. Immediate reaction is full bodied and long long. Note: This was an extremely generous gift of which I am very thankful. That said I plan to rate this as objectively as a person who loves bourbon can rate a whiskey. I haven’t dived too far into the knob creek pool but here we go… this is tasted neat. The nose is amazing. The neck pour palate left something to be desired it was just too hot to drink neat and taste a whole bunch. With water more flavor emerges. I’m going to try this again. Initial sip is good but not great. -
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B521
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 3, 2021 (edited October 17, 2021)Nose: caramel and chocolate covered cherry cordial. That’s a good start. Clove, peppermint, butterscotch & toffee. A peppermint candy cane dipped in chocolate and butterscotch. Really a delicious nose. A little rye spice after the first sip.as it opens over minutes more of the traditional caramel and vanilla smells wafting out. Body: whoa, full and meaty. Holy shit, that’s the real deal. I’ll have to sip this slowly it’s brining the heater right down Main Street and the smoke trail is still hanging out in its wake. Palate: Clove, peppermint, chocolate, rye spice, more clove then under tones of toffee very unified without a strong caramel or vanilla presence. Some honey. Finish: forever long, like wisps of smoke wafting up from my throat for minutes afterwards. Lots of clove, so different and enjoyable. The lasting flavor is like a swisher sweet maybe it would pair well with one 😂. Note: well. I got a bottle. Paid twice msrp 🤦🏽♂️. This better be outstanding. It smelled pretty good on first sniff. This is after a big steak and potato dinner half a bottle of brut cuvée with the wife and a few ounces of EC toasted barrel and small batch 1010 store pick, which I think is better than the toasted barrel. Huh? Anyway let’s see what this son of a B is packing. It’s got a lot of accolades being in the 2020 whiskey of the year award family. I’m going to sip this on 7/3/21 while watching the movie neat. This is a really unique dram for me. I really like it for its blend of new and traditional bourbon flavors plus the super long finish. This is a damn good bourbon. I’m going to enjoy this bottle. I’ll pair it up against ECBP A121 which I have open and see what heaven hill is doing here, what are they up too? Putting swisher sweets in the larceny barrels I suspect. Anyway this is great. Top of the top shelf or bottom of the love it category. I’m not sure yet I’ll have to see how grows on me. -
