Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 30, 2021 (edited June 4, 2021)A taste with don. I got a lot of marshmallow with classic vanilla and caramel. I liked the sweetness. Very little heat or spice in this bottle. I really liked this. 7/3/21 my official tasting notes. Nose: caramel, toasted wheat bread, I was waiting and waiting and after a few minutes the marshmallow broke through. A browned marshmallow over a campfire. Vanilla. Citrus. Oak much later in the dram. Body: medium Palate: caramel, vanilla, little rye, little rye spice Finish: medium to longish Note: tasted neat. Eating twizzlers after a huge steak and potato dinner two glasses brut cuvée and an ounce of EC 1010 pick. Who knows what that’s all done to my palate. This really is a delicious and interesting dram. I’m going to enjoy this bottle. The citrus tone is a little weird. Almost vinegar like but not bad or off putting just a little weird like it’s off with the rest of the creamy aspects. -

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A121
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 22, 2021 (edited June 19, 2021)Nose: neat: caramel, salted caramel, dark chocolate, caramelized cherry, French toast but on rye bread, some kind of nuttiness, peanuts maybe and a funky gym socks which isn’t fair but it’s a funky odor which I think is the nuttiness. Body: medium Palate: green apple on first sip. Caramel, vanilla, surprisingly smooth for the proof. Finish: long Kentucky hug. Long smokey finish really makes this drink. Note: this one is all over the place for me. The nose is interesting. Mostly standard caramel and sweetness but with a funny little funk, which I don’t mind. The finish is very nice. I like this a lot overall. I really dove into this and have to say I like it a lot, love it no, but will enjoy this bottle for sure. -
Four Roses Small Batch Select Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 22, 2021 (edited July 1, 2021)Nose: neat: red fruit, juicy fruit gum caramel, vanilla. Near the end of my 2 ounces I got a faint burnt sugar creme brulle deliciousness. Body: medium to full Palate: extremely smooth if this goes to the back palate. More peppery, prickly if I let it sit on the front palate, but still a very smooth dram. Flavor wise pretty standard fare with caramel, vanilla with red fruits again. It tastes like it smells and it noses nice. I think the thing that stands out is the pure sweetness of this dram. Finish: medium to long with more vanilla and a surprising long faint smoke in the background which I love. Note: finally getting around to putting in a review. I’m half way through this bottle. Just started distribution in minnesota. My first impressions are this is delicious. More flavor than the standard small batch. My initial impression was holy smokes this is amazing but now half way through the bottle I’m more in the “this is really good, but maybe not as good as I thought initially”. It pairs wonderfully with vanilla bark covered Oreo balls. -
Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2021 FAE-01
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 3, 2021 (edited April 10, 2021)Note: orange, sherry, pear, smoked caramel, apricot, peanuts. Cherry, fruity. Body: medium-full Palate: baking spice, caramel, vanilla, bowl of fruit. Finish: medium Note: the neck pour and first few drams tasted like five alive but this dram was more smoky with the fruitiness evolving into a more stewed fruit single malt benromach 15 kind of fruitiness but brighter and without the smoke. Good, not great but good enough I wish I’d a tried the first two. -
William Heavenhill 13 Year Bottled in Bond (8th Edition)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 3, 2021 (edited July 31, 2021)Nose: neat: caramel a lot of caramel, chocolate and vanilla. Nuts... water chestnut? Faint smoke in the background. The smoke really emerged the longer this breathed. Body: medium to full Palate:caramel, pepper, vanilla Finish: very long and smoky, smokey caramel and tobacco, that’s how a finish should go. Note: a taste from don. 1.5-2 ounces. After a doc swinsons 15 and early timed bib. So I’m feeling good. Also 2 bottles of wine earlier today so yeah. Tombstone on the TV adds to this profile along with being on the north shore of Lake Superior. Aaaaaaaanyway, I’m excited for this even though I’ll never get a bottle unless I’m in Kentucky. The dram just kept unraveling after the first sip. The long smoky, tobacco and burnt caramel are my favorite. The palate is classic with a full body but what makes this special is the long smoky finish
