Glenfiddich Excellence 26 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 18, 2020 (edited October 25, 2020)Representing speyside: dufftown: fiddich & Dullan rivers Nose: neat: honey, caramel, sherry, vanilla. Pepper. Citrus fruit. Raisin. The sherry honey sweetness is what stands out. After the first sip more orange came out, almost like orange toffee. with water: orange dominated with honey sweetness. Sherry in the background Body: neat: thin and light. with water: still thin and light Palate: neat: oaky sweetness with some faint caramel and a hit of smokiness which is lovely. with water: pepper stood out and caramel cane to the for front. Finish: neat: I was surprised it was medium in length and a little lasting smokiness which I love with scotch. It’s like a sweet smoky caramelly orange. with water: no change with water but more Carmel, orange sweetness with a Burnt oakiness. Delicious. Note: this was given to me at a sample 1.5-2oz from Jared. Initial sip was nice. It was a little distant and smokey which I liked and opened up into the sweetness. This was an interesting dream that just kept evolving sip after sip. The flavors were swirling around and a round which made this very enjoyable. -

Note: drank neat. Wow Delicious is the first impression, much less heat than I expected given younger age. This is really good stuff. -

Nose: neat: sherry, orange citrus, plum, apricot... I let it breath for ten minutes or so and it got a little more tangy, hints of alcohol and tobacco. Later as the etoh burned off more malty notes came through. Also walnuts. Few drops of water: more sherry sweetness, just stronger Body: neat: full, a little creamy and coats the mouth. With a few drops of water: remains full Palate: neat: sherry, sweetness and tobacco leaf. Also malty flavors. Very minimal pepperiness and spiciness. With water the smokiness at the end is stronger and last longer. Really really good. The beginning of the taste has a little more pepperiness with water. Finish: neat: long with water long. Note: was interested in this since it won whiskey advocate whiskey of the year 2018. First sip had me shaking my head “yes” this dram evolves in waves of deliciousness and the initial impression is “this is how a whisky is supposed to taste”. After two sips my impression is “this is really good”. This is just my style, sweet and smoky. Also after about 2 ounces I felt it a little so for 50+proof that’s pretty nice. Reminds me of the talisker 18 and the Springbank 15. Really excellent stuff. Not as good as the nikka 17
