Glen grant sherry wood 1967 Scott's selection
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 16, 2019 (edited March 1, 2020)Representing speyside rothes river Nose: sherry and caramel, molasses. Mix of heavy sweet with light salt. Hint of smoke. Beautiful nose without water. With water nose opens up to give green grape and roasted nuts. Body: full, 55.1% comes through with out water. Water calms this down. Palate: sweet caramel, sherry powers through with a lovely hint of smoke. Really tastes like it smells. Delicious. Water takes this beats and allows it to mellow out. It is absolutely delicious and unfolds in layers of almost chewy caramel and nuts. So good. Finish: looooooong and spicy hot without water. With water the length is punctuated by caramel, smoke and nuttiness Note: water makes this a much more enjoyable dram. This feels like the perfect dram for sitting in a smoky room in big leather chairs shooting the breeze with the boys. Just a great dram -

Kurayoshi 12 Year Pure Malt Whisky
Blended Malt — Multiple Countries
Reviewed June 29, 2019 (edited May 1, 2021)Nose: macallan-esq sherry apricot nose with caramel and pepper Body: medium Palate: malt, vanilla Finish: medium Note: this one is ok, not enough body. I guess I don’t see what the fuss is about with these Japanese malts. They seem to fall flat for me. And again more rice. -
Kurayoshi 8 Year Pure Malt
Blended Malt — Multiple Countries
Reviewed June 29, 2019 (edited December 22, 2019)Nose: vanilla, honeyed, sweet Body: medium Palate: spice, floral, vanilla sweetness, peppery with a light malt Finish: medium Note: ok, not enough body for my liking. Also makes me wonder if all Japanese whiskey has rice in it. Like their secret sauce. -
Nose: crisp, light, peppery, salty with hint of vanilla Body: medium Palate: more full than the blended oak, sweet (bourbon notes), honey and rose petal Finish: medium Note: I like this more than the blended oak has more body but still light. Also reminds me of sake, maybe rice. I think is a corn distillate but this must have rice in it with a sake undertone.

Bowmore Darkest 15 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed June 29, 2019 (edited March 25, 2021)Representing island of islay Nose: sea air, salt, sherry a lot like the classic laddie nose. Vanilla, toffe, (bourbon elements?!), melon, more smoke later on and peat with water Body: light Palate: coffee, smoke, light sweetness, but smoke predominates with water spice increased which I think is odd, maybe it’s the dinner I’m eating it with? Hint of vanilla with water Finish: short to medium, peat Note: delicious really good just short of amazing... if the sweat nose came through on the palate this would be amazing
