Michter's US*1 American Whiskey
Other Whiskey — USA
Reviewed February 14, 2020 (edited February 29, 2020)Fresh bottle- broken cork, so had to put it into a cleaned out buffalo Trace bottle... poured myself a dram before doing so. Luckily got the cork with no remnants out. Sitting for 5 min- color is dark brown almost amber color. Darkest I’ve had this far. Nose- s’mores , and toffee, from a little farther away sweet pickles (I know , weird right?) , maple syrup, banana. Taste- deep honey, caramel, a little spice, dark chocolate, a little black pepper finish. Mouth feel- initially it felt light, but as I kept at it, it actually has a deep thick richness. Not too oily, little spice that sets in the back of the throat. Lingers pretty long -
My first foray into peat, was definitely afraid since people I knew called it the palate killer. Nose: salty, briny, smoked jerky, after exhausting my nose to those smells, I get some sort of fruit zest and vanilla Taste: Smokey, salty, charred meat, light sweetness on end Finish: there’s a subtle heat, like embers in a fireplace that just sit there. Feel like all parts of my mouth are being triggered. Not localized to one area. Long Finish. Still present after much time.

Nose: candied fruits, raisins, bubble gum, brown sugar Taste: banana, bubble gum, cotton candy While I enjoy drinking this, I feel like it’s kind of all over the place, always different when I drink it. Maybe that’s just me. The finish is short and leaves a hint of heat on the tongue and rid of the mouth. Price wise I would do it again. If this bottle were any more expensive I’d have to pass

You really have to dive in close to get the nose, unlike other whiskies ive tried Nose: cherry , fruity, light, slightly browned Apple mouthfeel: watery, not oily at all, drops straight to the back of your throat, only thing that tells you it’s whisky is the slight heat at the very back of the throat. Taste: cinnamon, grapes... very hard to pick out flavors for lack of much flavor.
