Booker's Bourbon Batch 2021-01 "Donohoe's Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 28, 2021 (edited February 2, 2023)I was excited to find this in a local area shop for near msrp earlier this year. It had been a long time since I had seen a Booker’s at a reasonable price, and even longer since I had actually tasted one. Within the last month and a half I was able to pick up the Pigskin Batch locally, the Boston Batch in Yreka on the way to a funeral in Washington State, and was given the Backyard BBQ Batch by a nephew while there. Thinking back to years ago when I first tasted Booker’s, I was salivating at the chance to taste all these batches. Memories seldom match reality, and that’s the case here. Based on my recent experience with these batches, while a solid bourbon, Booker’s just seems to have a narrow flavor spectrum that’s missing the fruit and savory flavors I enjoy in a bourbon. Tasting: Oak, nuttiness and creme brulee on the nose, it’s a little hot on the palate with grain, oak and vanilla notes, the finish is long, hot and bitter. I liked it better with a large ice cube, which actually brought out some dark fruit notes.72.99 USD per Bottle -

Reviewed August 24, 2021 (edited March 16, 2022)Brown sugar, nuttiness, ethanol, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, cherry, orange, oak and barrel char notes make this an enjoyable pour.99.99 USD per Bottle -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2020-02 "Boston Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 13, 2021 (edited August 25, 2021)There’s barrel char, brown sugar and barrel spice notes, but it’s all very muted for a high proof whiskey. Liked it better with a large ice cube which brought out some cherry notes. -
Kilbeggan Single Pot Still

Distiller reviewNo. 500 Had the fortune of winning a bottle drawing for the right purchase this at or near MSRP earlier this year. At first I thought “I don’t get what all the fuss is about. It’s a fine wheater no doubt, but it’s not gonna rock your world.” However it has slowly grown on me. Nose: Semisweet, with barrel char, citrus, caramel, vanilla, orange peel and crème brûlée, which all combine to make a throughly enjoyable experience. Palate: Supple with the caramel, vanilla, crème brûlée and orange notes in a fine balance. Finish: Medium length and drying with orange, caramel, and vanilla notes. It still won’t rock your world, but it is an excellent wheater and thoroughly enjoyable. Worth seeking out a pour.32.0 USD per Bottle

St. George Baller Single Malt Whisky
American Single Malt — California, USA
Reviewed July 29, 2021 (edited February 19, 2022)Sharp umami, floral notes and plums. Interesting, but not particularly enjoyable. If you thought this would be better in a high ball, you’d be sadly mistaken. Label art is A+.
