Heaven Hill Green Label 6 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed December 11, 2019 (edited March 27, 2020)Cinnamon candy and ginger ale on the nose. Sweet baking spices followed by a mellow caramelly barrel char and a little spice on the finish. Very excellent bourbon! -
David Nicholson Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in Missouri), USA
Reviewed October 26, 2019 (edited April 4, 2020)Nose of heavy corn and light baking spices. Barrel char on the first sip, corny sweet creamy on the 2nd, 3rd, etc. and more baking spices up front that turn to a spicy black pepper and vanilla finish. Little taste of barley and herbs linger. Little pricy, but I like this one. -
Wilderness Trail Bottled in Bond Single Barrel Bourbon (Wheated Bourbon)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 23, 2019 (edited February 24, 2020)Mild vanilla, with herbal notes and a little smokey barrel char on the nose. Thin mouth feel. Can definitely taste the barley... Just a hint of spice on the finish which makes sense given the lack of rye in the mash bill. The heat from alcohol content can be mistaken for a mash bill with rye in it pretty easily. Much greener, younger finish than I anticipated from the 5-6 year age statement. For a $50 bottle, I'd say this needs a few more years in the barrel to mellow a bit more. -
Old Grand-Dad 114 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 6, 2019 (edited October 10, 2019)Nose is heavy with sweet baking spices. Palate is full of cinnamon and clove with a hint of sweet citrus and turns caramelly on the finish with a peppery rye that gives way to lighter wood and hay. -
Very young green woody, grassy, earthy nose. Faint sweetness in the nose, not quite vanilla... Maybe like a marshmallow. Light on the palate, very thin. Light barrel char flavor, bit of an herby flavor with a typical peppery rye lingering on the finish. Comparable to Journeyman Featherbone, but better.

Starlight Single Barrel Indiana Straight Bourbon (Market District Carmel #1518)
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed August 17, 2019 (edited August 19, 2020)Hot hot hot... But what else do you expect from a 3 year old 120+ proof whiskey? The smell is sweet, like caramel. A very quick floral and citrus note on the palate, followed by an overwhelming synthetic cinnamon flavor (think, red hots). The cinnamon slowly fades into an oily, syrupy, maple finish. -
On the lighter side as far as color... golden, like liquid amber. I'd guess this comes from light char barrels as it still tastes a bit young even though it's minimum a 4 year bourbon. I'm actually surprised the mash bill is as much corn as it is... I get a lot of the signature rye notes... cinnamon, peppery spices... I would have expected that the barley content was approaching double digits, though. I get a lot of barley notes from it, unsweet toffee and nutty... reminiscent of a Scotch, but without the peat, of course.

Mine is a single barrel store pick... Sweet on the nose, toffee, vanilla, etc. Very oily on the palate... there have been times I wasn't sure what people meant when they said a whiskey was oily... this is oily. There's no mistaking it. It coats your mouth and has very mild flavors - again with the sweet toffee and vanilla, maybe a hint of citrus.
