Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 18, 2019 (edited June 28, 2019)It’s said that the “single barrel” varies from year to year, so I write this with that caveat. However, based on this tasting (two consecutive evenings), I’m not impressed at all with this whisky. Admittedly, I did have high hopes for this bottle given its very high rating with Distiller—and usually these ratings I tend to agree with. All in all, this was a big miss for me. This whisky came across unsettled, sort of unfriendly. It was as is the flavors couldn’t sort themselves out, and nothing settled or stood out. -
This is a complex taste for me. When I sip this without much attention, I don’t enjoy it much. The combo of spice, tartness, and sweetness can be distracting. However, when I drive this intentionally and appreciate the journey of flavors this dram offers, I enjoy it more. Still though, not something I purchase over something else, given the choice.
