Nose is interestingly very similar to EHT SB. I was hoping for a higher proof, heavier hitting OWA, but it’s a bit more of a departure than that. Great bourbon but it’s not my favorite of the Weller line up. Closer to a higher proof Weller 12. Buttery, spicy, vanilla and caramel nose. Palate is great. Warm and round and rich. Heat coats the tongue with long finish. Slight cherry. I use the rating scale below. Distiller uses a scale of 5 and I use a scale of 10, but I’m sure you’re not too drunk to do the math! 1. Disgusting - So bad I poured it out. 2. Poor - I wouldn't consume by choice. 3. Bad - Multiple flaws. 4. Below average - Not bad, but many things I'd rather have. 5. Good - Just average. 6. Very Good - Better than average. 7. Great - Well above average. 8. Excellent - In a league of its own. 9. Incredible - An all-time favorite. 10. Perfect69.99 USD per Bottle

The nose and palate were so light and fruity. Tons of strawberry. Nose is the most interesting part with palate being a strawberry version of Weller SR. I was able to try this during a very long night of whiskey tasting, but I was unfortunately unable to take good notes. I use the rating scale below. Reviewed June 27, 2020Total Wine 2020 pick. 10y 8mo. Tier 1. Not a ton of 4R experience, but this is good juice. Rye spice, oak, pepper, buttery nose. Palate confirms the nose with some cherry. Not as rich on the tongue as I’d like with most of the focus being in the center of the tongue. Medium finish. Slightly lacking. More ethanol sting than the proof would suggest. I use the rating scale below. Distiller uses a scale of 5 and I use a scale of 10, but I’m sure you’re not too drunk to do the math! 1. Disgusting - So bad I poured it out. 2. Reviewed June 20, 2020 (edited November 19, 2020)Decent juice. Nose similar to Knob Creek 9 and Evan Williams Single Barrel. Oatmeal and cereal and minimal spices. Old Ezra 7 and Larceny BP tones. Stronger nose than ETL and ER. The BT line starts blending together after time, but I can tell this is higher proof. Caramel and vanilla too. Cinnamon hits palate. Cherry shows up. Approachable familiar BT product. More complex than ER on the palate. Hotter and tastier. Would be good at retail but good luck with that. I think this is on par with OWA. Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year Bourbon (107 Proof)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 19, 2020 (edited October 14, 2020)Didn’t get the best tasting and nosing notes because I was sitting outside, but here goes. Underwhelmed. Taters need to stop hyping this up because it’s slightly better than Eagle Rare and Eagle Rare is at the lower end of the BT range in my opinion. Nose differs from ER a bit in that it’s more substantial and classic. Caramel, honey and vanilla with the normal apple and cherry from the BT line in the background. Palate is like ER (cherry and apple) but slightly turned up. Not nearly to the level of GTS or Stagg Jr. Second tasting was a little better. Notes above stand, but this is a good bottle. Not worth secondary but it’s pretty good. So far, Stagg Jr. > GTS > ORVW >= OWA > Blanton’s > W12 > ORVW > BT > WSR > ER I use the rating scale below. Distiller uses a scale of 5 and I use a scale of 10, but I’m sure you’re not too drunk to do the math! 1. Disgusting - So bad I poured it out. 2. Poor - I wouldn't consume by choice. 3. Reviewed June 19, 2020 (edited December 1, 2020)Got lucky to get this pretty cheap per pour at a restaurant. Caramel, apple, cherry, same nose I get with a lot of the BT products. What sets this apart is the mouthfeel and palate. Mouthfeel for days. So round and rich and complex. I have a bottle of Stagg Jr. batch 13 at home and they’re very similar. Hot and round. Apple and cherry and caramel. Similar to Weller and Eagle Rare just turned up to the max. Worth $25 a pour? Yes. Worth $600? No. I use the rating scale below.
