Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 15, 2022 (edited February 6, 2022)Beautifully balanced. Not too sweet, not too spicy, bold but softer than you might think at 115 proof. Gentle toffee sweetness, with buttery baking spice, and just the right amount of heat. Finish lingers warmly, but doesn’t overstay it’s welcome. -
Ragged Branch Signature Bourbon
Bourbon — Virginia , USA
Reviewed January 13, 2021 (edited September 26, 2022)Starts a touch dry, turns sneaky sweet. Not very sweet, but gets there. For a 4 year old bourbon from a young distillery, this is a pretty solid offering. Curious to see what they bring out in the future, with some more maturity. -
John AP Conoley Bourbon
Bourbon — Newport, North Carolina, USA
Reviewed December 18, 2020 (edited May 28, 2022)Young, sweet, heavy gingerbread and baking spice, and at 52.5% ABV it’s got a little warmth, but not harsh. Not bad, especially for a 2 year old @ $26. -
Jim Beam Black Label Extra-Aged
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed December 13, 2020 (edited December 15, 2020)Simple, classic bourbon flavors, with that classic Jim Beam peanut underpinning. Nothing wrong with this bourbon, but as I usually drink somewhat higher proof (not bragging, just find that I prefer the taste of 50+%), it’s a little plain. However, for the price a solid sipper. -
New Riff 4 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 9, 2020 (edited December 15, 2020)Delightful and complex. Dark honey and dried fruit on the front, cinnamon and butter and baking spice across the middle, finishing with dark chocolate and citrus zest. -
Virginia Distillery Co. Courage & Conviction Dr. George G. Moore Batch
American Single Malt — Virginia, USA
Reviewed November 21, 2020Super malty funky on the nose. Sweet, vanilla, a little spice on the palate. Glad I tried, don’t know that I’ll buy a bottle.
