High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 10 (All Scenes)
Rye
High West // USA
A Midwinter Night's Dram is a seasonal release from High West and this bottling marks the 10th annual edition. It begins as a blend of straight rye whiskeys which are made from two mash bill recipes: one is a 95% rye/5% malted barley distilled in Indiana and the other is an 80% rye/20% malted rye made at High West in Utah. Then the rye blend is further finished in ruby and tawny port casks.
Prior to 2018, the brand sourced the rye whiskeys for this release, but it now features its own distillate. Please note: The Act reflects the batch number (Act 10 is the 2022 release) while the Scene is the bottling date. Available in limited quantities as of October 2022.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"A pleasantly musty aroma that brings to mind a batch of grape jelly simmering on a stove near stacks of old books with leather bindings describes the nose. The palate brings serious rye realness, with warming flavors of toasted, seeded rye bread, oregano and thyme along with dried figs and dates, cloves, and a hint of marzipan adding to the long, dry-yet-fruity and spicy (and slightly leathery) finish.
