Bottom line upfront, this is delicious. The nose is somewhat alcohol forward with notes of baked bread, earthy barrel char, baking spice, and a hint of dried leather in the background. The palate is very sweet with notes of maple, ginger, spiced apples, and cinnamon. Digging a little deeper, burnt brown sugar and dry roasted peanuts present themselves in the background. This tastes pretty smooth for being 110 proof. The finish gives way to notable spice that peaks and subsides into a long, oily finish with a subtle burn slowly tapering off into a final hint of bitter chocolate.

Nothing much on the nose other than the usual caramel and vanilla...maybe faint cinnamon. Probably since I’m drinking it out of a yeti. Palate is sweet caramel, cinnamon, and buttery...almost like kettle corn. Real smooth finish with a light burn. There’s definitely an absence of oak which sets it aside from some of the usual stuff I’ve been drinking. Not very complex, but nonetheless feels like a solid go-to.

Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 29, 2019 (edited September 17, 2019)Nose is classic vanilla, caramel, and oak. Palate is sweet vanilla, cherry, toasted oak, followed by faint amaretto. Finish is quick with a moderate burn as the flavors dissipate. Punches well above it’s weight at under $30 a bottle. Win! -
Nose has a soft ripe fruit note, mixed with molasses and raisins. Can definitely detect the rum in the nose. The palate brings more molasses, ripe plum, and faint maple draped in mild rye spice and a medium quality rum. The lower proof is definitely noticeable. The finish is quick and brings back the aftertaste of something I can only compare to coke-a-cola or Pepsi. I want to like this much more than I do. This certainly does not compare to Angel’s Envy rye as this seems rather one dimensional. It’s definitely not bad, just nothing spectacular. Probably good on a hot day.

Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 17, 2019 (edited July 8, 2019)This tasted much better after the bottle was opened for several weeks. Nose is rich vanilla, caramel, and slightly leathery. Palate is semi-sweet chocolate chips, cinnamon spice, clove, and light sweet coffee. Finish is lengthy, with more chocolate and vanilla on the back end followed by toasted oak. Great pour!
