Tastes

Caramel/acetone aroma. Thin flavor, some dry oak. Hype.

Not a JD fan at all. But this is very approachable. A little hot, even for barrel proof. Nice caramel flavor profile. Medium finish. Wish it was oilier.

Party and Smokey aroma. Flavor is milder and more delicate.

My current favorite bourbon. Vanilla, oak, malt, sugar cookie. Not too sweet. Oily and thick. I sip it neat. Finishing my second bottle, have 3 in reserve. I only have more than one backup of two other whiskies, and they're ryes (Angels Envy and Pikesville 110).

My favorite ryes to date are Peerless and Angel's Envy. At half the cost and better availability, this is a no brainer for me. Rich, sweet and spicy. I actually think i like it better than Peerless. More character to me.

Had this last night, thinking my palate has matured considerably in the 30+ years since i last had it. It still tastes like "old man's whiskey. Rough, makes my spine crawl and gives me shivers and a faint naseau, just like it used to. Tried it both straight and with water. Water just removed the heat, but allowed the taste to really come forward. Not a good thing for me.
