BenRiach Curiositas 10 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 2, 2021 (edited June 3, 2021)finally got to taste this tonight. wanted to for a long time. price point just right at the moment !! the nose is absolutely wonderful, sweet peat, peaches, mesmerizing nose, absolutely wonderful. For a minute I thought I had a new most favourite. palate slightly lets the nose down. Dont get me wrong, its still good but doesnt live up the expectation that the nosing creates. peat, honey, well blended. medium length... finish is smooth, not peppery at all, sweetness lasts for a while. This lies somewhere between ledaig 10 and JW green, more towards the ledaig 10. not a Ledaig 10, but enjoyable none-the-less.80.0 AUD per Bottle -
Im tasting this tonight after a while and my god this is GOOD. bold peatiness, some liquorice and some mild sweetness in the background, just the way I like it. slightly peppery in the end. Very similar to laphroag Quarter cask, which doesnt have this peppery ending and the laphroaig is more rounded as well. This is one of my most favs. if you like to keep sweetness to a minimum and love peat, this will be just up your alley.74.0 AUD per Bottle

Del Maguey VIDA Mezcal
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed July 25, 2020 (edited August 23, 2020)umami crisp and faint vinegar on the nose .... clean, nonalcoholic umami taste that ends with the roasted smoke flavor, short lived though. my first mezcal.. not bad.70.0 AUD per Bottle -
I love peaty whiskeys and a new peaty whisky with a distiller score of 93 made me very curious. Unfortunately for the first time, ( have been lurking with distiller long time ) I disagree. There is a distinct alcoholic nose ( kind of like the highland whisky from Aldi !!), very low peat in nose and taste. taste is smooth, very lightly peppery, medium length. Overall very disppointing. I had thought this must be a 80/100 rather than a 93.60.0 AUD per Bottle
