Tastes

Smoky, woody, apple, sherry, raw almonds. This is really light with a watery mouthfeel. Smoke and sherry are the two main components, and that’s what I get on the finish.

Update: Batch 14 is just as good as the first batch I had. “Milk chocolate with fresh cherries, concentrated syrupy raspberries. More vanilla bean and more vanilla bean, melted brown sugar, orange pith, and cinnamon.” Woah, did not know this was uncut when I ordered it...didn’t take me long to realize. I guessed 64%, but 67% will do. I’m also too stubborn to try and pour some of my water into my glass, so I had it straight. Syrupy nose of butter and vanilla bean. I could smell enough holding the glass a foot away from my nose. Milk chocolate with fresh cherries, concentrated syrupy raspberries. More vanilla bean and more vanilla bean, melted brown sugar, orange pith, and cinnamon. Okay, I’m convinced I need a bottle. I was going out on a limb ordering something that I wasn’t familiar with, one of the cheaper options on the menu. No mistake made today.

Soft but full arrival, no initial bite, very well rounded vanilla/cream soda, some saltiness, little almond, oak bite at the finish. A solid dram.

Bourbon quality, peanuts, cashews, dark chocolate, raspberries.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Creamy, vanilla, gummy bear fruitiness.

Paired with a cigar. Apples, nectarines, orchard fruits, chocolate covered oranges.

This one is rich and potent! The nose and palate are full of cherry pie filling and a good dose of orange bitters. Spices like cinnamon and clove follow suit along with some vanilla. It gives the impression of a wine influence with how it coats your mouth with a dark fruits sweetness and acidity. All that water did was bring out some waxiness on the long finish. This one lasted me awhile as I could still taste it in-between sips. A little goes a long way here.

Little wheaty, little grassy, lotta vanilla. A good sipper.

I had this with a great pork ramen, so it was fitting that I ordered a Japanese whiskey. Spicy nose, vanilla. Vanilla cream, almond cream, flower water, coconut water- light coconut, little spice on the finish. On the first few sips I tasted a greener wood smoke, but that quickly faded and I didn’t taste it again. Very tasty, I’m pleased with my first Japanese whiskey!
