GlenDronach Allardice 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 10, 2020 (edited February 5, 2022)Glendronach Allardice is shy, it happened to me multiple times that i serve this scotch to my friends after a couple of drams and it somehow seems to underwhelm! As if this one has stage fright of some kind, but when i take it aside on a calm evening and really take my time to appreciate... well... It’s very important to give this one a good 30-40 minutes in the glass to open up! Nose: 4,5* So deep, a lot to discover. Huge sherry notes, which are very fruity and crisp. Honey, sweet liquorice, wet soil, slightly dusty too. Palate: 4,5* Smooth as velvet, liquid Syrup de Liège. Perfect ABV at 46%, it’s feisty, very alive, yet never burns the tongue, all the tastes stay present. Sweet syrup on arrival, develops into spicy dusty oak and later introduces honey to the mix. Raspberry jam, sigarette smoke, I could chew on this for an eternity. Finish: 4,25* Soft but lasting, building up over time. Dark chocolate and raspberry fruitiness, damp-like smokiness, hints of oak. Very tasty. Calling this just a “sherry bomb” is not doing it justice. Heavily sherried scotch might not be the most interesting style, but this is one scotch crafted to near perfection.90.0 EUR per Bottle -
Bunnahabhain Cruach Mhòna
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 8, 2020 (edited November 26, 2020)Tasted neat. Nose: 4,25* like walking into a sawmill, sawdust, not far underneath some brine, some honey dweetness but mostly ashy, herbal, citric notes. Palate: 4* pungent charcoal smoke, pepper and unripe walnuts, burnt salted chips. Comes in hot at first but calms down quickly. Good and crisp body. Finish: 4* Nice oaky and ash like, drying and bitter. Smoke lingers for a good while. If Lagavulin 16 is your go-to whisky but you want something bitter instead of sweet for after a summer barbeque or bonfire, pick up this hidden gem! Great price-quality ratio too.55.0 EUR per Bottle -
Glenlivet 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 1, 2020 (edited December 5, 2020)Nose: 4,5* Amazing floral bouquet, everything covered in sweet honey. Mellow, extremely inviting, only lacking some complexity but otherwise nearly perfect. Palate: 3,75* As mouth-watering as the nose is, it works in it’s disadvantage as the palate fades down when mixed with saliva for too long.. Shame this isn’t 43% ABV anymore! Finish: 4* Drying, walnut-like woodiness turns into creamy vanilla and honey notes and finally linger down to something more bitter and dry.60.0 EUR per Bottle -
