Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2010
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 1, 2020 (edited December 27, 2020)Quite an interesting one this is. Very mellow on the nose with hints of cereal and light touches of vanilla. However the taste is what’s most intriguing. A slight bite from the lack of maturity but not to the level you would expect from an 8 year old malt. The flavors are long lasting and even after full consumption there is a creamy vanilla aroma that makes its way to the nose. Overall a very interesting scotch and worth the try. -
Glenmorangie Signet
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 12, 2020 (edited February 8, 2020)Can’t give this a 5 yet because I don’t believe perfection exists, but this is damn near close. Non aged stated whisky especially at that price point can be a concern but trying it once at a party and seeing it one sale at an airport, I knew it was meant to be as i had nothing but gold memories though vague they may be. Down the hatch: The balance is remarkable and immediately you get chocolate, nuts, a touch of tobacco. On the nose: mellow, fruity and creamy with touches coffee -
Talisker Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed January 12, 2020 (edited May 10, 2020)The smaller island Malts seem to have a good balance between some of the best parts each region offers. There is a touch of peat and sea spray both on the nose and down the hatch. The vanilla and almonds are a bit stronger on the nose while some noticeable traces of fruit do reveal themselves after a few minutes of nosing. The color is quite fine for especially for a 10 year old scotch likely due to the amoroso finishing in age. All in all a delicious dram. -
Kilkerran 12 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed January 12, 2020 (edited March 29, 2020)Love love love. Such a good dram overall and great representation from Campbeltown which goes against the grain of the usual norm and has more of an “underground” appeal. On the nose: great balance between fruity tangs, creamy oak and vanilla touches. Down the hatch: solid, balanced and smooth with such a good long lasting after taste. Overall well deserving of the score. -
Lagavulin 2003 Distillers Edition (Bottled 2019)
Single Malt — Islay , Scotland
Reviewed December 14, 2019Consistent as the previous year. No drastic changes to report yet, and still a killer bottle of scotch. -
Lagavulin 2002 Distillers Edition (Bottled 2018)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 14, 2019Same smoothness and timed complexity as the standard 16, but with a bit more tang and vanilla. Likely due to the transferring to Pedro ximinez casks which equals double maturation. Great amount of peat and smoke in the start, but soon reveals lots of scents once it makes it way down. Definitely a favorite -
GlenDronach Peated
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 14, 2019 (edited March 25, 2020)Of course when I see peated I immediately think of the islay kind of peat, but would be shocked if this even ranged at 5-10 ppm. Otherwise still a fine scotch with a little bit of warmth but not too hot. Nice hints of grape from the Pedro ximinez with some nice creamy chocolately finishes. Good tang, slight heat but no peat -
Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter One 2019
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 11, 2019Really strong on the nose with fruity tangs varying from apples to fruits. Down the hatch it’s a bit hot which is indicative of a youger scotch but overall execution is fantastic.
