Bowmore 12 Year
Peated Single Malt — Islay, ScotlandReviewed August 16, 2020 (edited December 16, 2021)Coloured amber in the glass. Nose: fresh sea breeze of a cold Scottish day, peat coming through second. Old fashioned sweet shop sweetness, powered sugar hanging in the air. Palette: smokiness to start, building from a cold smoke flavour to a nutty, rich and chewy oak. Dark chocolate toward the end, leading to a complex finish. Finish: relatively short bursts of sweetness and richness. Descending to a pleasing warmth and a dry oak rich finish. Would definitely buy a bottle. Changed my mind on Islay Whisky, would really love to explore an older age statement.
Loch Lomond Inchmurrin 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, ScotlandReviewed August 16, 2020Nice “drink by the dram” taster. Wouldn’t mind owning a bottle, and would be interesting to see an older age statement
Tomatin 18 Year Oloroso Sherry Casks
Single Malt — Highlands, ScotlandReviewed August 16, 2020Not sure I liked it enough to buy a bottle...
Jura Red Wine Cask Finish
Single Malt — Islands, ScotlandReviewed July 12, 2020Muscavado sugar on the nose, light mouth feel with a sweetness and smokiness. Quite a sensation of burning alcohol. Relatively short finish but not a bad drink.
Woodford Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USAReviewed January 9, 2020 (edited January 25, 2020)Dark amber and striking tears. Smokey oak, icing sugar, Vanilla custard, toffee, butterscotch on the nose. Smooth and rounded. Large filling mouthfeel. Burnt orange and dried fruits in the medium shirt finish. Quite dry at the end.
Bourbon — Kentucky, USAReviewed January 9, 2020Amber to the eye. Long residual tears. Burnt caramel, cinnamon spice, icing sugar, toasted corn on the nose. Smooth and rich mouthfeel with sweetness and round flavour profile. Medium long finish with oak and vanilla notes.
Grant's Family Reserve
Blended — ScotlandReviewed January 1, 2020Light colour with minimal tears on the glass. Looks a little like cheap pouring honey. On the nose, mainly ethanol with slight popcorn / pancake sweetness. On the palette, a light to medium mouthfeel with burnt sugar tastes. Adding water you open the flavour profile up and smooth the drink. Not my favourite whisky, fairly generic taste to go with the generic label.
