Glengoyne 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 9, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Phenolic taste, the best out of the 12 and 15, but must like this type of dram to enjoy this. I like the after taste, but can't get over the phenolic taste -
Royal Brackla 12 Year (Discontinued)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 31, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)I am not sure what to make out of this one. There is nothing unique that it excels at nor does it have any major flaws. Sweet with hints of sherry, dried fruits, some earth like notes, little spice, green apples, and oak. The finish is medium to short. There are many excellent options for a 12 year old at and below this price range making the recommendation for this one difficult. -
Jura Diurachs' Own 16 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed May 27, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)It is taking me time to properly evaluate this dram. My first impression upon opening the bottle was "nothing special" and a slight disappointment. There was a lot of earthiness and very little rich sweet notes and complexity. My second try after a couple of days, is a little better. I read somewhere that this whiskey needs a bit of time in the bottle to fully open up. Leaving it sitting in the glass is not doing much improvement. I will probably update this once I have more time with it. Few weeks later: slight change to the better, water helps the situation. -
3.6 for a while. Then left it, half bottle, for two months. Moved to 4.1. I opened a bottle of Batch 47 yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. While being 60% ABV, with a spoon or two of water, it is very smooth with no burn. Sherry monster indeed with very sweet notes and a rich taste that lingers for a fabulous spicy finish. I can see why many people recommend this as a Christmas dram.
