Cedar Ridge Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Iowa, USA
Reviewed August 29, 2020 (edited September 18, 2020)This whiskey is growing on me. I bought it after thoroughly enjoying the Cedar Ridge Bourbon finished in port barrels, which is terrific. This is not that. It’s very light (just 40% abv) but it’s approachable and tastes, well, like a sweet grassy wheat field on a summer day with a little vanilla added in. No burn at the end. Do I like this over bourbon? No way, but it’s nice and soft for those kinda days. -
Bulleit Rye
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed January 19, 2020 (edited January 24, 2020)My go-to for making a Manhattan. Nice combo of oak and spice. Perfect. -
Honey and eucalyptus on the nose, new wood and young leather on the taste with spike of oak and a bit of a thin, mineral note on the finish. Not great, but Texas whiskey to a tee. Kentucky bourbon it’s not, but it’s not trying to be Kentucky bourbon. Texas whiskey is bold and in your face. This is that.
