Baker's Single Barrel Bourbon 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 27, 2021 (edited October 7, 2021)Moving this to a single barrel and a higher proof was a good idea. This is a hidden gem. I get all vanilla and a barrel char note on the taste. The back end is spice, some nice oak, and some deeper cherry. Nice finish. A lovely sipper. -
Coopers' Craft Barrel Reserve 100 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 1, 2021 (edited January 4, 2022)Really like this. Packs a ton of interesting flavor at a value price. Agree with earlier comments. It’s all brown sugar and oak on the nose that turns into a rich vanilla pudding mouth feel with a lovely warm (not hot) Kentucky hug on the finish. -
I had heard good things about this juice and was finally able to pick up a bottle while driving through NE on my way to Denver. The price was low and so were my expectations, but wow. It’s a low proofer (80) and because of that, there’s not much of a barrel note on the finish. The nose and palate are all fresh flowers and with a hint of cinnamon and caramel. A very pleasant easy sipper. I wish I’d bought more bottles. I can’t get it in my state.

Knob Creek 9 Year Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed May 1, 2021 (edited May 15, 2021)I think this is one of the most overlooked bourbons out there. To get this much taste and flavor, with a 9-year age statement is an incredible value. And yet, so many people walk right by it. I get peanut brittle on the nose with a little spice. The mouth feel is all baking spice, vanilla and oak. Really solid daily drinker. -
1792 Full Proof Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 1, 2021 (edited May 12, 2021)I really like this but it will punch you in the mouth. Flavors are really thick and dense. I get dark chocolate cherry on the nose and Honey Nut Cheerios on the palate. Warm burn furnish that is hot, but not overly hot. Lingers nicely in the back of the throat. I like this neat but want to experiment with a few drops of water to see how that changes this. -
Bardstown Bourbon Co. Fusion Series #4
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed March 28, 2021 (edited April 25, 2021)I have tasted this twice now and it’s delicious. I get cinnamon and baking spice on the nose. The palate is all toasted caramel and vanilla with a nice burn on the finish, but not overly oaked. Really nice. -
Smooth Ambler Old Scout Straight Bourbon Store Picks 5 Year
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in West Virginia), USA
Reviewed December 24, 2020This was my first store pick. A 5-year barrel pick from my local store. I’ve never been a fan of barrel strength stuff. Too many of them are ethanol bombs for my pallet. But this one (barrel #24178), bottled at 58.8% alcohol is flat out delicious. Starts with a big floral nose that moves to toffee, peanut brittle, and honey on the palette wit a nose oak warm burn finish. One of the best bourbons I have tasted. -
Yellowstone Kentucky Straight Bourbon 7 Year (2020 Limited Edition)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 6, 2020This is my first Yellowstone LE. I have tried the standard Yellowstone before and consider it pretty average. I am also skeptical of $100+ bourbons because I believe with bourbon price is more a function of rarity than of quality. Nonetheless, three friends and I split this and gave it a try. My palette isn’t super refined, but on the nose I got more concerned because I got a nose full of ethanol and spice with just a hint of vanilla, and I thought the I was about to get this huge alcohol bomb on the taste. Boy was I wrong. The mouth is nothing but smooth, lovely, caramel, honey and peanut brittle like others have stated. Those Armangac casks just smooth everything out. And then the finish has this warm, lingering little oaky burn in the back of your mouth and all the way down. Not overly hot. Just subtle and smooth. This is one of the most complex and good tasting bourbons I have ever tried. -
Had heard this was hot on the palette and too spicy for some. I thought it was just right. Vanilla caramel on the nose with some delicious oakey spice as it opens up in the mouth. Smooth and easy to drink. Excellent. We finished off the bottle. I wish I could find more of it in MI. Hard to find here.
