A very approachable entry into the world of scotch. It's an inexpensive bottle that is expertly blended. Faint vanilla and fruit on the nose. The low proof delivers roughly the same on the palate for a pleasurable easy sipping drink. It's not going to blow you away but it smells great in the glass and it's extremely enjoyable to just sit back and sip.

Lock Stock & Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey 18 Year
Rye — Canada
Reviewed June 29, 2021 (edited November 24, 2021)Let's preface this with: I like rye. Assuming you do as well, this is one to try. Great complexity and wonderful baking spice and sweetness on the nose. You've got the spicey rye on the palate but almost minty qualities as well. No real harshness to me and I found myself smelling the empty glass for a while trying to make it all the various nuances. It's not a cheap bottle but it is a very very good one. -
I tried this one after multiple recommendations. Both nose and taste are very standard MGP rye profile. You've got the usual rye spice and really nothing that stands out for me. If you like rye, you'll like this one. It doesn't have the complexity of some of the older options from other distillers but it's a solid pick up that's getting harder to find.

Holy caramel bomb. Nose is like brown sugar and apple or maybe peach. Gotta be the sherry coming through. You can pick this one out of a flight of 4 every single time. Taste pretty much matches the nose. Caramel apples for days and the low proof makes it easy to sip. Definitely nothing like what I'd consider a traditional rye profile at all. I don't hate it as a dessert drink but don't go in expecting the usual rye flavor.

Willett Family Estate Small Batch Rye 4 Year
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 29, 2021 (edited July 18, 2022)Dark, cherry like flavor profile. Very unique over the usual MGP or Canadian rye. Fairly complex and easy drinking. Nice change of pace and worth trying an older version.
