GlenDronach 1992 29 Year Oloroso Sherry Butt Cask #217
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed July 5, 2022 (edited August 30, 2022)Wow. Had the chance to try this one on a live tasting and it's outstanding. Of course at this price point you'd expect it. The sweetness of the sherry finish is tempered by the long time in the barrel. It's more molasses than bright sugar sweetness and you'll get raisins and cherries. There's a bit of leather on the nose but that doesn't carry over into the palate negatively at all. The most impressive thing is the finish... It lasts for minutes. Cherries linger there with a tiny hint of nutmeg. After my tasting I decided to sell several bottles of bourbon to source this amazing cask -
Michter's 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye (2021 Release)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 1, 2022 (edited February 26, 2022)I just can't get into it... I dunno if it was the barrel I had or what but the Michters rye profile was almost medicinal or chemical to me. I'm a big rye drinker but this one was the biggest let down of the year. For reference my ideal rye is Lock Stock and Barrel which is 100% rye but I do occasionally enjoy the 51% rye blends. -
Blue Note 17 Year Single Barrel Reserve
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed February 1, 2022 (edited March 27, 2023)What bourbon should taste like. My favorite bourbon of 2021 and I will unashamedly rate this one a 5. Word on the street is Dickel sourced but there's not a hint of mineral flavor. My first bottle was straight up vanilla and caramel with a finish that just hangs there in that warm vanilla range. Whatever barrel they sourced this from was a true honey barrel. I've gone back to this and compared to my 10 year van winkle and it's in that range of caramel sweet goodness. There's some more oak in there with the 17 years but it's not overly oaked and it just works in this case. It may be cliche bourbon profile but it's very good cliche bourbon. I personally didn't get much in the way of cherry flavors but that's ok, I have other options for those notes. -
If you like cherry notes in your bourbon, this one is for you. Well aged with the oaky tannins you'd expect in a 14 year bourbon. It's not going to smack you in the face with oak, but you know it's been in there a while. Maybe more towards brown sugar sweetness with those deep cherry notes and a nice finish that eventually gets to the vanilla range. The price of admission is high with a strong emphasis on marketing but the bourbon itself delivers on this one.

Blue Note 17 Year Limited Edition Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed September 1, 2021 (edited July 16, 2022)Wow. I loved this one. Cherry, vanilla, oak, some citrus here and there. You keep coming back and getting new things on the nose and palate. There's some depth to this one and it's far from being an oak bomb despite the 17 years. Absolutely worth the retail price and everyone that's tried it has enjoyed it -
Blue Note Premium Small Batch Bourbon 9 Year
Bourbon — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed September 1, 2021 (edited April 18, 2022)It's a decent $40 bottle... I don't hate it, but it doesn't even come close to the 17 year version of Blue Note. Fairly traditional profile with some oak, vanilla, citrus type notes. I don't think anyone is going to taste it and say it's awful but don't go overpaying for this one. -
Glendalough 17 Year Mizunara Finish
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed September 1, 2021 (edited October 5, 2022)This bottle may be pricey but it's worth the cost of admission. I'm a fan of Redbreast and found this to almost be the more refined and smooth version. There's depth in the nose and palate and it's dangerously smooth. I got some hints of oak not it's not over done and lends itself well to the overall taste profile. -
Bimber Single Malt London Whisky Ex-Bourbon Cask USA Release 2021 (254 bottles)
Single Malt — England
Reviewed July 30, 2021The more I come back to this bottle the more I like it. It may not be the most complex whisky but there's a satisfying creaminess that you can tell comes from the ex bourbon barrel. It drinks a touch warm but it's a pleasant sensation. If you can find a bottle, grab one. I hope they bring more over next year. It's not a Scotch but you've got maybe a bit of fruitiness there that gets covered up with a caramel vanilla and biscuit flavor. -
Glenmorangie The Cadboll Estate 15 Year (Batch #2)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed July 28, 2021The nose and initial palate are pretty much spot on the tasting notes I think. Little light and fruity with some creaminess. Where it falls off for me is something in the finish... It has this white wine flavor at the end that just doesn't do it for me. I'm going to revisit it and make sure my taste buds weren't going crazy that evening. -
Well... That one is interesting. I'm a bourbon guy branching out into single malt and scotch so this is from that perspective. On the nose this is very floral. Really unlike anything I've had before. There's some fruit there but overwhelming smell to me was that deep floral aroma. Had my a little worried to be honest... But once you take a sip it's just this amazing blend of creaminess, fruit and some middle ground between coconut and vanilla maybe. I'm betting a drop of water will really open it up. It's not an inexpensive bottle but they have something great going on with this blend
