WhistlePig Old World Cask Finish Rye 12 Year
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Vermont), USA
Reviewed November 11, 2020Beautiful whiskey. Strong nose, bright opening with rye bite but a sweet finish from the aging. Great neat or with a rock, makes a hell of a cocktail too. All around wonderful125.0 USD per Bottle -
A glorious scotch. It has a little bit of everything. I'm not a real avid scotch drinker, the peat has always scared me off, but somehow despite the smoke and peat being a primary focus of this whiskey's flavor profile it just works. Incredibly smooth, complex whiskey. Beautiful light butterscotch color in the glass, amazing warm nose of smoke, brown sugar and, for lack of better description: fall. The palate comes in like a freight train in a pair of flannel pajamas, incredibly complex yet smooth and never overbearing. My favorite whiskey under $100, and it's not close. Quite possibly in my top 3 favorite whiskeys period.

An interesting bourbon. The nose is sweet leather with a floral quality to it, but the whiskey is spicy, pepper, clove and an almost astringent tinge to it on the palate. Still it had a smooth mouthfeel and a light lingering finish. I personally didn't feel these factors played well together, though it is a unique offering that I can't compare to any other bourbon I've tried. Worth a dram, but I wouldn't find much use for an entire bottle.
