WhistlePig Old World Cask Finish Rye 12 Year
Rye
WhistlePig // Indiana (bottled in Vermont), USA
The Old World starts with 12 year old, 95% rye whiskey distilled at MGP Distillery in Indiana. The juice then travels to Whistle Pig Farm and Distillery in Vermont's Champlain Valley where Master Distiller Dave Pickerell has finished the rye whiskey in different barrels with unique finishes to them.
He then “marries” the 3 distinct barrel finishes (63% Madeira, 30% Sauternes, and 7% Port) to create a truly brilliant expression. .

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"With the traditional spice-driven backbone of a classic aged rye, the unique finishing process imbues certain traits. From the Madeira you get a deep sense of raisin and molasses; with the Sauternes barrels a bright golden nectarine is added to be followed by hints of grilled cherry from the Port casks. The whiskey is woven together with a caramel silk and a high allspice overtone. This is a rye to linger with; don't rush it. "
