Laird's Applejack
American Brandy — New Jersey, USA
Reviewed October 15, 2021 (edited August 18, 2022)I don't really get any apple from this at all. Not bad as a brandy. But I was expecting an apple flavor, and I was disappointed. Smooth and easy to sip, slight oak barrel aged flavor. Really tastes similar to a whiskey. -
Does not taste like maraschino cherries, or much like cherry fruit at all. Tastes more like cherry pit, almond, and herbs. It is bitter, while at the same time syrupy sweet. It overpowers any cocktail I put it in. I kept reducing the amount, ½, ¼, ⅛ of what was called for in any recipe... but it is still there, and I don't want to taste this stuff anymore!

New Amsterdam is my favorite gin. I've tried many gins, and this is the one I keep coming back for. Good amount of juniper, but brighter and fruitier than a London dry. Notes of orange and lime. I love Gin & Tonics, and many brands serve very well in a G&T. This New Amsterdam Gin is the only gin I enjoy by itself on ice as much as I do in a cocktail.
