Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted January 9, 2022Flavour and nose wise, rare breed actually isn't too different from your standard bourbons like buffalo trace. But it brought the whole flavour profile a level above, and managed to prevent any of the flavour to feel over prominent. The proof is still a tad too high an burny for me though. Edit: give it a splash or two of water and it opens up even nicer. The floral and caramel essence burst is satisfying!
Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Speyside, ScotlandTasted January 8, 2022What a generic tasting whiskey... Typical of most blended I tried. Very flat profile with smoke, vanilla, floral and other profile all taking a backseat.
Deanston Virgin Oak
Single Malt — Highlands, ScotlandTasted December 4, 2021Rare to see a higher than 40 abv single malt at this price, especially when it is stated to be aged in bourbon casks. Had to try. Nose is very pleasant with fruity and slightly buttery hints, similar to the Glenlivet profile. The problem lies with its pallate. First second of it do have that high quality glen notes, but was quickly overwhelmed by peculiar bitter swirls and whole lot of other unpleasant impurities. Finish was very short too.
Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Peated Single Malt — Islay, ScotlandTasted November 18, 2021My first ever self purchase Islay single malt. My gosh that's a totally new sensation to me (the bourbon and glen drinker). Totally did not expect it to be SO different to whiskeys from the Speyside or USA . Heck, even compared to Jura, the Laphroaig is still way more crazy smelling! All I could pick up is smoke , char, ash and wood on the nose. Just like when lingering around a BBQ stand. Not sure if I liked it more than other liquors. But definitely a new experience in my alcohol tasting journey .
Monkey 47 Dry Gin
Modern Gin — GermanyTasted October 30, 2021One of the, if not THE, most complex spirits expressions I had had. I did not know how to describe the nose and the mouth because I'm not knowledgeable enough in both English and gin (bourbon junkie here), but Distiller's taster's description seems pretty spot on: A sophisticated mix of forest fruits and spices , with strong hints of juniper. Other prominent coherence I've picked up is minty tic tac aftertaste. Which is very interesting. not sure if it is "superior" to other more... Simple profile (like whiskey and bourbon), but it definitely means more depth for me. Hence the high score.
Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition
Peated Blend — ScotlandTasted October 19, 2021Probably the first whisky with a cocoa note hidden within it peaty profile I've savoured. Too bad the mouth isn't as interesting, just typical thin flavoured blended whisky, with an oily mouth feel. More burny than other whisky's as well. For it the price tag it comes with. It's decent.
Jim Beam Original
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted October 8, 2021Thin, watery, and come with an unnaturally bitter aftertaste. My 2nd worst spirit tasted so far. (First being Kentucky gentleman). At least the beam have a somewhat standard bourbon nose ...
Mellow Corn Bottled in Bond Whiskey
Corn — Kentucky, USATasted September 18, 2021It's like having a festival in a bottle. The popcorn and corn chips sweetness is the lead in the nose, replacing your typical bourbon's floral vanilla notes. First sips compliments the smell, and also bring about the 100 proof burn. The finishing is where it falls short, as only the alcoholic pungency remains. Still, it's a nice exploration into unknown, and Is absolutely drinkable especially for the price.30.0 USD per Bottle
Plantation O.F.T.D. Overproof Rum
Navy Rum — Multiple CountriesTasted September 17, 2021Besides having the extreme burn you'd expect from the proof, it's essential the richer version of plantation dark rum Same tropical fruit banana nose, with a heavy molasses taste in the mouth. On the first few sips, it behaved like a gentleman, but then your inner membranes of the throat and mouth will start to build up mucus to defend itself from the Ethanol. And the scorching burn will build up. Definitely need a few splashes of water to truly appreciate
Benchmark No. 8 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted September 9, 2021One of the, if not the best value bourbon out there. it has almost all the traits of a bourbon like vanilla and floral nose and palate. The only thing it's lacking is the complexity when it enters the mouth, and also the richness and thickness (aka too watery). But again , what's to complain for the price ?88.0 CNY per Bottle
