Westland American Oak American Single Malt
American Single Malt — Washington , USA
Reviewed June 30, 2022Color: mine came in a nice box and it’s a nice lighter color similar to corn or like a cream color. Nose: get a leafy, dry tobacco cent to Thai one. Similar to like an herbal tea. It’s pleasant and zero burn/ ethanol notes. Reminds me of a herbal leaf tea Palate: dark leafy brown tobacco like leaves. Really kind of one dimensional with the dark, leafy, herbal notes. Finish: finish shirt with like the same herbal leafy, tea like flavors. Not too long but it’s so smooth and calm. Lingering herbal/ vegetal flavor. Experience and info: so I decided I wanted to try American single malts. I saw through my state control that this product was being discontinued and was only available at one location within an hour of my place. I decided to grab one and give it a try. At an msrp of 70 usd or so it’s an interesting option. I understand that the pricing of malted barley and barley is high. The intriguing part of this is the 5 malt usage and the idea of specific grains. I had to snag one to try at 44 usd after taxes and the such. This makes it more reasonable to try for me. Would I buy this again? No, but I would try other varieties from this company. They make a fine single malt for sure but, with it being just American oak casks I don’t think there’s much influence from the casks so it’s not a perfect bottle. I like it but I don’t love it. I look forward to seeing more from Westland in the future and will follow their company. This was a great intro into American single malt. For $70 I expected much more diversity and things similar to other reviews and notes. My palate is fresh and I don’t have the same identification as others but, it was a good easy sipping pour. I am a proof hound, cask strength lover so maybe it’s just not “in my face” and that’s why I don’t love this to pieces. As a fresh crack and first pour I will be returning to it and enjoying it. -
WhistlePig 6 Year PiggyBack Rye Legends Series: Big Papi
Rye — (Bottled In) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed June 22, 2022Strong rye finish (spearmint double mint type). Rather light and airy. Smells leathery and calm. Little rye kick with that spearmint finish. Never had regular piggyback but I feel like the baseball bats add that leathery wood like note. My tasting notes and such are very fresh. Bigger swigs lead to a heavier rye spice and heat.50.0 USD per Bottle
