Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 23, 2021 (edited September 26, 2021)Prominent rye spice up front that gives way to sweet maple and honey. Very nice sipping rye for the price. -
Old Overholt Bonded Straight Rye Whiskey
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 1, 2021 (edited September 27, 2021)Little sharp on the nose. Pleasant caramel and vanilla scent. Drinks harsher than I'd prefer. Hot rye spice and alcohol taste overwhelms the palate. -
Solid "local" bourbon that is admittedly sourced from Kentucky. Several people compare it to Knob Creek which makes me wonder if it's aged at Beam Suntory. Light, peppery, sweet, and approachable. Just an all around solid bourbon to try in my early whiskey journey. Maybe it won't hold up over time, but I'm enjoying it right now. Vanilla caramel oak on the palate with some pine notes.

Smooth, sweet, and a little bland. Not exactly my idea of a daily sipper, but it's popular and widespread for a reason. Light floral fragrance with subtle fruit (banana and apple) and vanilla on the nose. Fairly thick yet oily mouthfeel with vanilla, mild spice, and a toasty nuttiness on the palate. I actually bumped this up a notch from my initial impression. It's a little more complex than I gave it credit for. Need to move past the college experience bias.

Rich and deep nose with the caramel, vanilla, spices, and a bit of tea. Standard caramel and vanilla flavor that is overpowered by harsh spice which dissipates quickly leaving just a slight burn on the tongue and lasting wood notes. Decent bourbon, but not one I plan to return to anytime soon after the bottle is gone.

Glenmorangie The Original 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 17, 2021 (edited November 8, 2022)Gifted by my father and my first personal bottle of single malt. This is a lovely, bright whisky. Light to medium body. Almost no alcohol burn whatsoever. The flavor is light and pleasant with floral notes to accompany the more prominent vanilla, honey, and orange citrus.
