Macallan Edition No. 2
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 13, 2017 (edited January 28, 2017)I want to like it better but I can't. It is good but not outstanding. It lacks the wow factor that I expect from a special edition. Nose: toffee, chocolate, dried fruits and some caramel. Palate: warm, toffee, spicy vanilla, and a hint of smokiness. Finish: slow, medium viscosity, dry, slight burn. Nic complexity but not overly complex. Three drops of water will take care of the burn though. I think I will buy another one just to have one since it is an edition no 2 but not particularly because I am blown away by it. -
Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 23, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)I picked this bottle because I wanted to experience the rum component of it. Price was 80 which in my opinion is a little high for what you get. I would like to see it go for 60 maybe. Nose: you immediately sense the rum. Caramel, sweet and fruity. Pallate: low viscosity, creamy vanilla, buttery and sweet. Well rounded body overall but not complex. If you are looking for a complex experience, try the balvenie 21. Finish: warm, lingering. I did feel the potency of the alcohol at the end as i did get a burn on the edges. Tip: add three to four drops of water. The nose will be a lot smoother as well as the pallate. It will allow you to enjoy the flavor ot the whisky better by softening the potency of the alcohol. -
Nose: chocolate, brown sugar, some apple. Palate: brown sugar and chocolate on the tip. Mid and back spicy vanilla. Finish: not long at all. Medium viscocity and not too oily. Does not burn but could use a drop of water to open up a bit due to port cask. Price: I believe I paid close to 70. Decent price but I wouldn't pay more for that for it though.
