Tastes

Holy smokes! A new taste. A new whiskey... Sorry, whisky. I love it when a distiller takes my taste buds on an adventure they've never been on before. Brimstone is a rich and smokey experiment that actually worked. All corn in the mash bill, but even a casual drinker can tell this isn't Kentucky bourbon. Spicy, smooth, savory but not terribly inviting. A worthy investment of time and imagination, but it's flavor isn't for everyone. Balcones has been getting a lot of press, and deservedly so. Brimstone is a fun offering, and it's safe to assume we can expect great things from this distillery in the future.

WhistlePig The Boss Hog Straight Rye Whiskey
Rye — (Bottled In) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed November 10, 2014 (edited August 13, 2019)Not for kids. Unlike its sweeter 10 year old little brother, this one is a spicy fire that's not for the faint of heart. An amazing distillery and their 12 year rye is an absolute treat if you're in the right mood. Not really something I'd drink everyday (even if I could)... But if you get the chance, don't pass it up. The 10 year edition is my absolute favorite rye and wish it was up here so I could petition for a 6th star option.
