Kentucky Owl 11 Year Rye (Batch #1)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 20, 2018 (edited December 30, 2020)Hands down the best rye I’ve had under $200. Incredibly complex, with notes of baking spices, brown sugar, and the unmistakable floral/herbal taste of a well-aged rye. I wish I knew where it was sourced from, as the KY Owls may become really hard to find. Offhand, I can’t name a better rye. I enjoyed this more than BTAC Thomas Handy. I only hope batch 2 is as good as batch 1. -
Disappointing for the price. My 2018 bottle was fairly harsh and young tasting for the 10yr age statement. Tastes very similar to a lower proof Old Forester 1920, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was sourced from Brown-Forman. If this was a $50-60 bottle, I’d give it 3.5 stars. For its $120 MSRP I’m thoroughly disappointed.
