Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 22, 2021 (edited February 20, 2021)Typical Macallan, with a real sense for the sherry. It is such an elegant scotch, with all of its character firmly on the palate, not in advance on the nose or as a burn. The one area in which it disappoints is how it doesn’t linger but fades rapidly leaving you with a sense of being jilted by a beautiful lover. -
Sweetness on the nose with a hint of smoke and sea salt. It transitions to the palate incredibly well with the peat peaking through, but melding very well with the balanced body of this great whisky. Spice from the virgin oak makes a late but welcome appearance on the top of the palate, and as you would expect from Jura the finish is as poised and enjoyable as the rest of this great dram.
