Speyburn 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 20, 2016 (edited October 22, 2019)This 10 yr old surprised me I must say. For $30 it's a real bargain. Upon opening, and taking a whiff, it nosed like glenfiddich 12. For $15 less! On the palate, the complexity was superb-considering the price point. People of Distiller, or any whisk(e)y lover, take this bottling into consideration if you ever feel like saving some dough while still expect a good Sunday evening dram! Trust me. -

Benromach Peat Smoke 2005
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 26, 2015 (edited November 12, 2016)A Speysider with the phenol notes cranked up to 11... Hats off to the people of Benromach. They really showcased their skills with Peat Smoke. Very similar to Ardbeg 10 as far as phenolic flavor and overall presence, but I find the malt to be less Speyside and more Highland. I'm thinking maybe Glenmo' 10 with Ardbeg phenols. It's got more sweet and citrus notes ringing out from the peat and smoke. It's really great whisky! It's going to be a wonderful Winter this year! -
