Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 13, 2018 (edited August 28, 2018)This may be my favorite new bourbon that I’ve tried. I found it to be a great combination of sweet and spicy, and the sweetness has some caramel and dark chocolate to it. For comparison, I think some of the Beam’s (namely, Knob Creek and Baker’s off the top of my head), can be more in the sweet corn-raisin-cinnamon family of sweetness, and 1920 just differs from that with the dark chocolate. Disclosure: the dark chocolate became more apparent to me after resting for 30-45 minutes on my first pour. Without the rest it was lots of heat and no sweet. Very good, and I will prob have to always have a bottle of this. -
Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 13, 2018 (edited August 15, 2018)This is a very drinkable barrel proof bourbon. Front end has something tart to it, so it may be a combo of fruit and mint, but the finish has the ever familiar spice and vanilla. There are some other layers, but I won’t pretend to have that good of a palate—I don’t. Let’s just say baking spices and caramel though. That seems to always do the trick. -
Good bit of spice and some fruit with a dry and long finish that stays with the tongue. Very oily and thick. Also has a deep wooden flavor (tho it could be leather—not sure) once it airs for a bit. For comparison, it’s not as sweet (nor as good IMO) as 1920 Prohibition Style, but it’s still a very drinkable bourbon and will never turn it down if offered.
