Angel's Envy Cask Strength Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels (2018 Edition)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 28, 2019 (edited February 10, 2020)Wow! This is a really warm, big boy Bourbon. My first taste had the longest finish I have ever experienced from a bourbon. The 124% will impress you and you will suddenly realize you won't be drinking glasses full of this even if you try to tame it with ice or a bit of water. This is the bourbon to share with your bourbon buddies. It's strong and long on taste. I real bourbon lovers bourbon. Dark golden cognac color with an abundance a spice. You'll detect warm cola, caramel, raisin tastes, under a sweet honey first impression. When I uncorked to smelled, I first noted honey, so I thought It would be sweeter than it is. I was delighted with all the different flavors and spices calling out to my tongue as I waited through that marathon finish. Ranked the "Best Spirit in the World" in F. Paul Pacult's 2013 Spirit Journal. Angel's Envy cask strength is unlike any bourbon I have ever tasted. Marvelous.Got it for $229.00 -
Blanton's is so woody it makes me think of Woody Wood Pecker and the taste of my grade school pencil I chewed in my youth. Its dark color promises deep, very smooth taste. This bourbon has one of the smoothest swallows for its 51.5% alcohol content. That wood favor is well balanced with fruit notes, almost rummy ghostish taste, very slight chocolate hint, the touch of dry rye and sour mash corn base that only this distillery can bring together so beautifully. Some reviews say they taste pepper and peat, but my tongue hates peat, and Blanton's has none of that. I love giving Blaton's as a gift since it is tough to find. I learned that even some of my more seasoned bourbon-buddies had never tasted it. Blanton's offerings are minimal since it is considered a small batch company. Three bottles only three times a year at most of my local stores. My tip for getting all the Blanton's you want to enjoy privately, and two bottles in the cabinet on hold for gift giving: call all your local stores and ask them to call you the minute it arrives. And don't leave out your small rinky-dink corner liquor stores. At the store, no one knows what it is, nor are they looking for this beautiful Kentucky brew. Save the horse corks. Each has a letter. Save the corks to spell out Blanton's name and mail them to the company. I hear they will send you a free bottle, but I have not accomplished this myself. God only knows how many bottles one would have to drink do acquire all the correct letters, but with this challenge, I have no problem. Or save the corks for yourself and purchase a Blanton's Bourbon Bottle Glorifier Display for $99.00 on the Etsy website. It's a wooden stand for your bottle with places for your corks. Cutest thing ever. Picked it up the bottle of Blanton's for $59.99
