Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 27, 2017 (edited July 5, 2017)ME 28-1N (50% ABV) BLUF: Another great single barrel release from 4R. Add a drop of water and give it a few mins to come into itself. N: Almond extract, citrus and limestone (take a whiff of gardening soil with crushed limestone in it), vanilla, bubblegum, caramel and just a tiny hint of grape. As is often the case, the oak arrives late. P: Cocao, tart, cherries, pepper and rye spiciness. F: Mellow initially with chocolate fudge then a lingering, bitter dryness takes over the tongue. The oak may have arrived late on the nose but stayed to the finish then went home with the pepper. -
BLUF: An interesting experience, not for everyone but an excellent, young, and active rye addition if you are looking to expand your range. N: Floral, plum, and vanilla up front with typical oak notes and even a bit of coconut lingering in the background. P: Herbal for sure, but earthy as well with hints of clay and moss. Extremely sweet. F: Sweetness continues throughout with a growing spiciness at the end.
