Highland Park Magnus
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed November 22, 2017 (edited April 10, 2018)Very nice NAS HP expression. The price for value is over the top! This easily tastes like or better than any age stated variety costing upwards of $50USD. My new low cost go-to whisky. -
This is a NAS whisky that wants to be a Laphroaig really badly but tries to market itself as something different and "hip". For the price I would rather have a Laphroaig 10 Year. If it were about $20 bucks cheaper then it would be worth it. Now, don't get me wrong it is a good tasting, heavy peaty dram, but the value for content just isn't there.

This is a "love it" or "hate it" kinda whisky. Very young single malt that provides a lot of burn. It has very deep notes of wood smoke and charcoal. The finish on this single malt is one of the strangest I have ever encountered; it leaves a odd "tingle" on the roof of the mouth for some time after. Very inexpensive so I would recommend every one try it at least once (if you can find it).

John Barr Blended Scotch Reserve Blend
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed June 16, 2017 (edited December 8, 2018)One of the best, if not THE best, lower shelf blends out there. Great taste, smooth and well rounded.
