Balcones Brujeria
American Single Malt — Texas, USA
Reviewed February 11, 2019 (edited April 27, 2020)Just a phenomenal whiskey. Not sure if it’s 10 years aged or just a 10th anniversary bottling, but it matters not. At even 62.7% ABV it behaves like a much-older whiskey. The nose and arrival are very similar to their Brimstone offering, but with a courteous sherry component that fits like a glove. The smoke component is reminiscent of burning Post Oak and Mesquite, but never offensive. If you can find this bottle, you’re a fool not to buy two.120.0 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More -
Your grandparents’ medicine cabinet and cigarette tray on the nose, yet vanilla and some barley sugar to round it out. The arrival adds some lemon, brine and pleasant maritime aromas through the nasal cavity. Very warming and complex finish with peat and bonfires in the finish. As pro reviews have it, it’s a complex and challenging dram that is best at this age statement.38.0 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More
