I thought I'd take a break from typing about Dramfest whiskies to 10 days later actually drinking one. To be honest for a whole week after just thinking about the stuff made me feel very physically nauseous...it took 5 days for my tongue to revert back from black. Anyhow like a good athlete after a viscous physical game a long rest makes everything ok...hopefully anyway...it's hard to assess internal organs. Anyhow this is a nice dram to ease me back in, nice safe, low alcohol and complexity, bubble gum honey flavour. Ok liver back into it...

Diamond (Pot Still) 2008 11 Year Cask Strength Guyana Rum Port Ellen Cask Finish - Kill Devil (Hunter Laing)
Aged Rum — Guyana
Reviewed March 18, 2020 (edited March 19, 2020)Dramfest 2020. Ok I did a quick calculation off the booklet we got for Dramfest and worked out for the princely sum of $90USD I got to try nearly $9000USD of spirits excluding all the great stuff you couldn't even buy like distillery new makes....now that is a great VFM ratio! It's not just about the VFM aspect however for me it's about finding stuff that's different, unusual, blows me away etc. Now while this didn't blow me away it was unusual...rum aged in ex Port Ellen Barrels..wtf! Apparently they managed to get hold of a bunch and put rum in them...I never found out how much they cost or even how they had the connections. Anyhow it was a lighter slightly sweet rum with Port Ellen style peat flavour over. Interesting in principle but not that impressive just different.. -

Dramfest 2020. Ah El Dorado..in the younger days..my 30's..ok late 30's 5 years ago I was all over their sweet, sweet sugary goodness...until I didn't really like sweet spirits or in fact these days sweet anything.. Now the back story to this one was that all their non sugary dosed stuff was released by independent bottlers and then eventually the owners of El Dorado, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) decided to do it themselves and voila the Albion 2004. It's meant to be a replica of the Albion Distillery which closed in 1968 and to do this they used Wooden Coffey stills which I didn't even realise was a thing or possible but there you go. Lovely dram but wasted on me that late in the stage day 2 Dramfest..

Now apparently there are quite a few variants of this whiskey, 8, 10, 12 yr etc. This is I believe the original bottled in 2017 with a run of 1350 bottles. It was released for the 60th birthday celebration of the Chairman of Amrut. For the Chairman Mr. Neel Jagdale's birthday, they created the Greedy Angels 8 Year Old Chairman's Reserve Indian single malt - at the time, it was the oldest whisky they had released. Now amongst the haze of Dramfest 2020 which despite 10 days passing I still haven't touched a whiskey (although that's about to change), this was towards the end and probably around the 900 mark but hey who really knows I just thought I'd pick a good one to celebrate the milestone. And it was..damn fine whiskey. One of my top 10 -15 out of the 120 plus that I recorded tasting. Would love a bottle but %$#!! the price dear godness...$250USD for an 8 year. As an aside Amrut was in my top 5 bottlers/distilleries out of the 40 or so I tried.
