Glendronach 26 year 1992 #113 50.1% Oloroso Butt

GlenDronach 28yo 1990 #2623 Oloroso Butt
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed February 24, 2020Number 2 at the Glendronach tasting tonight and man this was collectively judged not a good dram. Very plasticky, chemically. This was the most expensive at $600USD as well. Can't believe RB let this get out the door. Update: Dramfest 2020. Ah crap another Glendronach master tasting and this showed up. Maybe not as plasticky but I think still they are trying to get rid of this crap...why bottle it? Luckily I also got to try the Grandeaur 24 yr and 25 year Master Vintages which saved the day but I'd be pissed if there were three of these... -
Laphroaig 10 Year Cask Strength (Batch 10)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 19, 2020 (edited September 18, 2021)It's our 10th wedding anniversary today and so after coming back from dinner I thought what better way to cap it off by cracking open a 10 year cask strength Batch 10 Laphroaig. Good things come in triple 10s! Straight away it was good out of the glass, I was afraid to detract by adding water, but I threw in a few drops anyhow. Damn a great drop, what the 10 year should be by default...nearly 20% higher abv. It's been a while since I had the 10 but from memory pretty similar. Would love to work through a bottle but limited release not over here. Iodine, beautiful sweet vanilla, seasalt, smoked bog and more. 4.25 easy peasy at least..then by the end 4.5..so damn rich. -
Clos Martin Folle Blanche Armagnac 1989
Blanche Armagnac — France
Reviewed February 17, 2020 (edited February 21, 2020)I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of Armagnac. I've had a few old ones and they have been quite overoaked. Soo I moved up a decade or so and what's the verdict? The oakiness dissipates some what and a deep rich cognac like flavour. It's sort of prune, porty type flavour. It definitely grew on me but I don't think it's one I'd drink to much of. -
Compass Box Tobias & The Angel
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed February 17, 2020 (edited September 30, 2021)I thought I'd pick something decent for my 800th tasting which the Project Manager in me was like hmm ahead of schedule which is usually good but maybe not in this situation..anyhow I remembered I had a sample of this and mindful of @PBMichiganWolverine experiences with expensive bottles I handled the dram carefully and made sure no one drank it by mistake. It's a very nice drop, mellow light meadish peat. Very well integrated. Solid 4.25 which may have risen higher if I got a chance to work through a bottle. -
Scallywag Cask Strength
Blended Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 16, 2020 (edited February 21, 2020)Quick Hit review. Lighter and delicate, well balanced and doesn't need much water to bring out the flavor. Definitely heavily reused refill cask as you have to strain harder than a constipated mule to get a lot of favour initially. Light Gingerbread type profile. Short oddish finish. All round not to bad though. -
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel 100 Proof Bottled in Bond
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed February 16, 2020 (edited October 28, 2021)Quick hit review. I wasn't a JD fan to begin with and this is same as std at higher strength from what I remember. Cloying sweetness and goes down easy, I couldn't be bothered drinking the rest.. the kitchen sink took one for the team. -
Island Holiday Snapshot 4.236 (SMWS)
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed February 16, 2020 (edited October 23, 2023)Quick hit review. Definitely an odder one. Floral barbecue said the label and its right! It's a nice drop but prefer the Linkwood. Thanks cascode!
