Hazelburn 9 Year Barolo Cask Matured
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed April 23, 2018 (edited October 6, 2020)Definitely needed water to coax out the flavor. In the end it just seemed like a standard bourban cask finish. 3.5 -
Glentauchers 17 Year Old Batch 2 (That Boutique-y Whisky Co.)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 23, 2018 (edited November 15, 2023)Dramfest '18. Stunning dram. One of if not my top dram of the nearly 40 I had on the day. $115 USD and a 4.5. Rounding up to 5. Only 508 bottles made so get in quick! Update: Another day another taste. Still a great dram but maybe more a 4.25. -
The Glenrothes 2004
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 23, 2018 (edited October 24, 2021)I was really disappointed with the official Glenrothes we tried at Dramfest and this was the worst. Very bitter and wrong. 2.5 -
Glenrothes 1997 19 Year Un-Chillfiltered Collection (Signatory)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 23, 2018One of 3750 bottles. Cask numbers 9797 to 9801. Great dram. Toffee forward and beautifully rounded. Very cheap as well at ~ $70 a bottle. Much better than the official bottlings I've had which have been decidedly average. 4.25 -
St Magdalene 1975 - Rare Old (Gordon and MacPhail)
Single Malt — Lowland, Scotland
Reviewed April 23, 2018 (edited May 27, 2020)Annus horribilis..yes 1983. 11 distilleries were brutally put to rest. Amazingly one company DCL was responsible for 9 of them. The distillery is now mostly residential flats. Only 164 of these bottles and I got to try one. Lucky me given a bottle is now several hundred $ plus if you can get one :-). Now I've drunk a lot of whiskey and I like full rich harder hitting flavours but I think this is stunning for how wispy and delicate yet so perfectly balanced. Often older ones get past a point and get ruined, this one is like a tightrope walker delicately balancing on a very thin highwire. 5 for me -
Glenlossie 1975 42 Year Single Cask (Cadenhead's)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 23, 2018Quick Fact: Most of Glenlossies stuff goes into Diageo's blends these days. Anyway onto the whisky one of 138 bottles I believe. Nice to taste a slice of history and a new distillery (for me) but poor casking means it doesn't add up to much sadly. Standard bourban refill fare and definitely not worth the $400 or $500 it retails for now at auction. -
Glengoyne 1996 21 Year Small Batch (Cadenhead's)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 23, 2018 (edited November 29, 2020)Dramfest '18. Beautiful rich sherry. Few drops of water opened up beautifully. $120. 4.25 -
Glenfarclas The Family Casks 1999
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 23, 2018 (edited September 10, 2022)Glenfarclas is a distillery that really doesn't do it for me. I've had a fair few including a bottle of their 25 and just find their casking to mild. This one is the same. Solid. Nothing special. Bitterness to the finish. Few drops opened it up a bit but still a 3. -
Glendullan 2001 13 Year Connoisseurs Choice (Gordon & MacPhail)
